Publisher's Summary

When an unlikely (and nameless) hero stumbles into the path of a serial killer, he has no choice but to defend himself, and ends up killing the killer. Shocked by his own strength, he then goes through the dead man's wallet and finds the damnedest thing: a personal ad inviting the killer to join a party hosted by Errol Flynn. Errol Flynn? Isn't he dead?

What begins with passing curiosity soon becomes uncontrollable obsession, forcing our hero to fly to Chicago to join the party. From the moment he steps into Grillers and meets 18 "skillers" - serial killers, to the uninitiated - his life is never the same. Their name: the Serial Killers Club. Their game: to share the thrill of the hunt and to make sure no two members target the same victims. With the monikers of old Hollywood stars masking the skillers' identities, their ranks include "William Holden", "Tallulah Bankhead", "Richard Burton", and before long, "Douglas Fairbanks Jr.", our hero himself.

But "Dougie" has no intention of wasting innocent victims. Instead, with a government special agent on his tail, he devises a perfect plan to knock off the members of the club one by one. But what will happen when they notice their numbers dropping? Dougie doesn't have an MO, and he's not really a bloodthirsty killer. Or is he?

Introducing a brilliant, witty new voice to the world of thrillers, The Serial Killers Club is fresh, frightening, satirical and darkly funny. In other words, a killer.

    "Tried a bit too hard"

This was supposed to be humorous, but just wasn’t funny enough to be an interesting parody or hard hitting enough to be a black comedy. It is easy to spot the red herring pretty early on in the plot, as a result the final big reveal left me rather irritated.

    "Time Wasted"

I finished this book out of sheer morbid curiosity. The best compliment that I can offer the author is that his synopsis is by far the highlight of his work. It lured me into purchasing a book that I would otherwise never have watched as a movie, much less wasted my time reading.

    "Not fantastic, but OK"

Narration is pretty good, but the plot was predictable and a bit trite. It doesn't expect much of you, and as long as you're not looking for something exceptional, it's a decent listen.

    "Very amusing!"

I found this book to be pretty entertaining! The plot was predictable at times, but it really didn't seem to subtract from the fun. Don't take the book too seriously and you'll enjoy it! The main character had me cracking up and Holter Graham did a great reading! Maybe not the most intellectual of books, but I doubt that was the intention. A very fun listen!

"I'd forgotten how bad writing sounds like"

Only got about 2 hours through this. I'm not sure if the writer is merely incompetent, or worse, simply lazy. Lines like 'he fired of a quick one-liner, and I laughed' -- is it too much to ask the author to write the dialogue, rather than describe the category of statements made? Also the FBI agent gives him 2 months to finish the job, only then are we later told 'it was 3 months since the last meeting' -- what? I don't know if anyone even proof read this before publishing.

We have no character development of the protaganist in the first two hours, we have no connection to him one way or the other.

Honestly this feels like it was rushed to market to cash in on the success of Jeff Linday's Dexter series (this was released in 2006, after the first 2 Dexter titles).

I can say one thing for this book, it really reminded me of what bad writing truly sounds like.

    "Murderously punny"

Knock about serial killing fun. A funny and brutal tale read well. The narrator brings to life an entire room of freaks and nut jobs. I loved it!

    "Well read, black humour..."

Thoroughly enjoyed listening to this one... It's a great one for the fans of Jeff Lindsay's Dexter novel, which are sadly not available on audible :(
