I have a way, becoming attached to characters. when I saw this book when in death of two characters I despised, I hesitated. Wanting to know what happened, I decided to go ahead and add this book to my library. not only was I pleasantly surprised but overjoyed I'm getting to know these two dark characters better.
Two of the least likable characters match up. It is fun! Willig does a good job of building a humanizing romance between these two without either of them actually breaking character. And the spy/mysteries are getting a bit more sinister and exciting. The modern day storyline is moving along nicely too. I enjoy the double storyline carried throughout the series. Kate Reading's reading is perfect as always.
Lord Vaughn falls in love, it is awesome.
When Lord Vaughn asks Mary to marry him, and be his forever. They are perfect for each other.
The end at the play, I don't want to spoil it but it is the best part.
There are always some laughs and tears in each story.
I have read all the titles in this series and would not put this one on the top of my list. Thought the characters were wonderfully developed as in all the books, I just didn't like Lord Vaughn and Mary. It was a wonderful story that continues the spy saga, but it just didn’t hold my attention as the others have. The modern day happenings in this one were more interesting, but I don’t want to give anything away.
Tell us about yourself!
I really love this series. Laura did a great job and with Kate Reading as the narrator the books come to life.
I really enjoyed this book.. the crimson rose did not disappoint at all. I enjoyed the twists and turns of the plot, Lord Von was a different hero but as the heroin was also full of wit the hole book through.. this was a nice change from the norm. I found myself thinking I will listen to this one again at some point. I must say though if you are thinking this is a sweet love story don't this is fun and I love the ending but it is sassy and different than most it has grit and just when you don't like the heroin you change your mind and like her again... I hope you listen to this book and have as much fun as I did
Vaughn is my favorite anti-hero ever written. I adore him! Mary... even at the end of the book I could lock her in a closet and conveniently forget the key. But sparks fly between them and their witty repartee is fun to read. This is one of the most inventive of the Pink Carnation books. The plot is very twisty and the villain may well surprise you!
Ms. Willig did too good a job painting this older sister of Letty from the previous novel as a negative character. It was harder to cheer for her. I didn't really like her character or the selfish one of Lord Vaughn. I did enjoy the Love story but then both characters go back to being spiteful, malevolent snobs. No thanks
Not the usual romantic leads - a couple of tough-minded, self-centered, unsentimental characters in over their heads. I enjoyed it. Kate Reading's reading was stellar as usual.
