Publisher's summary

Lauren Willig continues the exciting series with her fourth novel, The Seduction of the Crimson Rose, featuring Lord Vaughn, the delightfully devilish spy from The Masque of the Black Tulip, and Mary Alsworthy, the raven-haired beauty whose sister accidentally stole her suitor in The Deception of the Emerald Ring.

A new twist - Dispicable me!

Two of the least likable characters match up. It is fun! Willig does a good job of building a humanizing romance between these two without either of them actually breaking character. And the spy/mysteries are getting a bit more sinister and exciting. The modern day storyline is moving along nicely too. I enjoy the double storyline carried throughout the series. Kate Reading's reading is perfect as always.

Series in Decline, Sadly.

Unfortunately, it appears that with each successive books, this series becomes less entertaining. While the first two books were delightful, and the third considerably less so, I fear this fourth book tolls the death knell. Neither of the leading characters is particularly likeable. In fact, both somewhat played the role of person-you-love-to-hate in previous books. And they remain quite unredeemed here. By their own admissions, the one thing they love about each other is each other's selfishness. It's ugly, therefore unfeigned. Be still my heart. What a trait to build a romance on. Don't waste the credit.

Pleasantly surprised

I have a way, becoming attached to characters. when I saw this book when in death of two characters I despised, I hesitated. Wanting to know what happened, I decided to go ahead and add this book to my library. not only was I pleasantly surprised but overjoyed I'm getting to know these two dark characters better.

One of my faves inthe series!

This book is one of my favorites in the series so far (I've only got to Betrayal of the Blood Lily). Mary and Vaughan are so deliciously snarky and play very well off each other. They have really good chemistry and I like how the Black Tulip plays a part as well. Eloise and Colin's story is nicely done as well, and gives a bit more information as to the motivations behind some of Colin's actions and attitudes.

Another AWESOME book by Lauren Willing!!

One of my very fav authors and series. her work us full of Mystery, Intrigue, Romance ( well done ...NOT the bodice ripper genre) set in a well researched Historical setting. She has dome her homework and research well. As a armchair historian I appreciate this attention to the historic details.

Pace Setter

Any additional comments?

I have read all the titles in this series and would not put this one on the top of my list. Thought the characters were wonderfully developed as in all the books, I just didn't like Lord Vaughn and Mary. It was a wonderful story that continues the spy saga, but it just didn’t hold my attention as the others have. The modern day happenings in this one were more interesting, but I don’t want to give anything away.

Just great

I really love this series. Laura did a great job and with Kate Reading as the narrator the books come to life.

great addition

I really enjoyed this book.. the crimson rose did not disappoint at all. I enjoyed the twists and turns of the plot, Lord Von was a different hero but as the heroin was also full of wit the hole book through.. this was a nice change from the norm. I found myself thinking I will listen to this one again at some point. I must say though if you are thinking this is a sweet love story don't this is fun and I love the ending but it is sassy and different than most it has grit and just when you don't like the heroin you change your mind and like her again... I hope you listen to this book and have as much fun as I did
