Merciless, the Supervillain without Mercy (TM), is back with even bigger problems! How far will he go to fix his wife's current state of being a soulless vampire? Can he ignore his growing feelings for Cindy, despite their difference over the new Star Wars movie? Can he survive the wrath of the president of the United States (whom he accidentally stole billions from)?
While he ponders those personal issues, Death has a new mission for him. The greatest hero on Earth has killed, and she isn't pleased. Death wants the murder solved and the perpetrator given the kind of justice only the Avatar of Death can dish out. Unfortunately for Gary, that's only the tip of the psychotic iceberg.

This still feels like a dark comedy of a Jack Kirby comic. I love it. All of the rich backgrounds, the characters, the conflicts of being villains vs being good, and it's just still has that nice make it work magic. Now to be fair, had I not heard the first two audio books, I'm not sure I would have liked this one as much. Story wise, this one is fairly average but the narration production and enjoying the characters in action again is what made the fun still sink in.
If you enjoyed the first two, I recommend this one as well.
I love audiobooks!!!
Wait, what? Aaaaarrrghhhh! Noooohhhh! I really hope the next installment is coming soon. From the progression of the first two books, I assumed this was to be a trilogy. I've been binge-listening and just got to the end of book 3, which leaves sooo many more plot questions! Don't get me wrong, there isn't a terrible cliffhanger, just a device that will put this book on my radar for insta-buy on release day. Overall, I absolutely love this series so far. It's smart, funny, and absolutely irreverent at times. I completely love the voice actor, too. If I could have given this book ten stars, I would have, both for creativity and for execution.

Gary better known as Merciless, Super Villain, has his hands full. He wants to be a super villain but still finds himself being the super hero … for all his badness, he still does ultimate good just in a roundabout way. The story talks about his struggles to rescue his wife Mandy from the soulless life of being a vampire – his love for her seems consuming until he falls for another and then voices if it’s possible they can all have a consensual and approved relationship …
The President, Mr. Omega wants to destroy all the supers – heroes and villains; death wants Ultra God’s death avenged and Gary has to deal with both. The question comes down to whether or not Gary can save the world, stop President Omega, restore his wife’s soul, solve the murder of Ultra God and still be a super villain?
Lots of action and new characters from the earlier books. And Merciless does not stop with the cliches or sardonic humor EVER.
The writing style of C.T. Phipps is unique – Merciless, aka Gary, argues to himself and with his cloak while most of the conversations are witty cliches or movie references that we his audience know but not the characters in the book who look at him like he’s lost his mind. The writing is fast as is the action and not as detailed as it could be. But the premise is awesome. How many people would think it would be this hard to be a super villain? Who would have thought that being a hero was not necessarily a choice or easy but rather a struggle of mega proportions?
Jeffrey Kafer is the narrator who skillfully performs this audiobook. His ability to be Gary is amazing. He does not get tongue-tied or bust out laughing or moaning when there are some really bad cliches. He slips into the characters easily and gives voice to them. He sounds just what one would expect Merciless to sound. He brings the “comic” like tale to life as only some can – he is one of the best skilled at this feat.
This book for anyone who enjoys sardonic humor, action, old-fashioned super heroes/villains and graphic novels

I am really enjoying this series. It is an unabashed not to comic nerdidity and very well done.
if you enjoy comic books and sarcasm then grab these and listen it read them.
I enjoyed this story as I have the others in the series. I like the writing style, comedy and story line. The juxtaposition of characters with their internal drives never fails to make me chuckle. In the end this is a story line that I impatiently wait for the next installment.
I really enjoyed the first two books in this series. This one was enjoyable but not up to the quality of the other stories. Gary is starting to feel a bit flat.
The story and narration go together like cheese and crackers. Both perfect and fun! I love this series. Great on point humor. I laughed and enjoyed this performance right to to the end.
"to be continued, oh come on"
excellent storytelling, fun and witty, but when I was just getting into the story it didn't finished and had to be continued.
I just hate it when that happens which means I have to wait until the next book comes out.
"better than meh"
Although I am enjoying this series, the characters are great and the previous stories have been great, this one seemed a bit ...thin.
Spoiler alert. The first two books set things different to what was delivered, perhaps something changed in the authors life, but a readjustment in the protagonists love life was the result. It made the whole story just seem like I had missed something. The story itself I wasn't sure if there was any movement either, it was packed full of pop culture references from the last two years, but over all it just felt off. Wrong in a morbid way, it literally went from book one. I love mandy, I still love ultra goddess to book two re confirming this, and even mandy and ultra goddess to accepting one another to book three I love mandy, I hate the mandy that I have and I love Cindy. Ultra goddess is okay I suppose.
I know its not painted to be a great love story, but in a world where super powers exist you at least want to believe that love was there. Sadly it was missing.
I will buy and read the next installment, just in the hopes that phipps recovers what's left. Lets not talk about the other character progress, powers developed and story as it was explained like a kids explanation of why they thought filling a swimming pool with petrol and having a firework party was a good idea.
"weakest of the 3"
mildly entertaining but fizzled out towards the end - not sure I'd bother with the next installment
