From the author of the Kindle number one best seller The Letter comes a heartbreaking novel of tragedy, hope and second chances, set in England in 1976 and the present day and in Australia. Fans who treasure the novels of Lesley Pearse and Susan Lewis will adore this author.
It's the long, hot summer of 1976, and the regulars of The Taverners pub in Manchester are preparing for a day trip to Blackpool. But after a horrific coach crash, not all of the day-trippers make it home.
Forty years later, and the consequences of that fateful day are still being felt by the families. But what if not all was as it seemed on that stretch of motorway, and someone has been hiding a devastating secret?

"Very good book. Recommended."
After reader her previous book The Letter i searched out more from this author and narrator, i was not disappointed.
Both the storyline and the characters soon came alive. Loved the ending too.
narrator was good very well read....good storyline.....good twist in story....really enjoyed first audible story ☺
"plenty of twists and turns"
loved this book, kept me interested all the way through, not many books surprise me, but this had a few surprises in it. could relate to the characters and in places i had a tear in my eye.
What a wonderful book . Rachel Atkins was a brilliant narrator - so good with all the accents , both male and female. I have listened to two books so far written by Kathryn Hughes and have enjoyed them both
"Good beginning predictable ending"
I loved this book at the beginning but as it went in I got really bored and really struggled to keep going. I much preferred The Letter and would recommend that book over this one.
"A well versed story"
First and foremost I enjoyed The Letter and because of this bought The Secret. A good read with an in depth knowledge of human behaviour.
I gathered the secret towards the middle of the book but another part of the story was a complete suprise.
One of my favourite purchases.I couldn't stop listening .
Really enjoyed the story and liked the characters. The narrator brought the characters to life.
Didn't want it to end.
This is the first audiobook I have listened too by Kathryn Hughes and I have now purchased The Letter . I hope it's just as good as The Secret
"a must read"
loved the book from start to finish. the introduction the way the characters were introduced, the fact that it was set in 1976 the summer I left school the twist at the end 👍
Gripping story, beautifully written., The narration added depth to this audio experience. More please from this writer.
Loved it + loved the narration!
Highly recommend this if you like a story that is present day and past. If you are in your 40's or older you will undoubtedly enjoy!
