Publisher's summary

I live in a world without magic or miracles. A place where there are no clairvoyants or shapeshifters, no angels or superhuman boys to save you. A place where people die and music disintegrates and things suck. I am pressed so hard against the Earth by the weight of reality that some days I wonder how I am still able to lift my feet to walk.

Former piano prodigy Nastya Kashnikov wants two things: to get through high school without anyone learning about her past and to make the boy who took everything from her - her identity, her spirit, her will to live - pay.

Josh Bennett’s story is no secret: Every person he loves has been taken from his life until, at 17 years old, there is no one left. Now all he wants is be left alone and people allow it because when your name is synonymous with death, everyone tends to give you your space.

Everyone except Nastya, the mysterious new girl at school who starts showing up and won’t go away until she’s insinuated herself into every aspect of his life. But the more he gets to know her, the more of an enigma she becomes. As their relationship intensifies and the unanswered questions begin to pile up, he starts to wonder if he will ever learn the secrets she’s been hiding - or if he even wants to.

The Sea of Tranquility is a rich, intense, and brilliantly imagined story about a lonely boy, an emotionally fragile girl, and the miracle of second chances.

A compelling story

I was completely addicted to this story and I listened every chance I got! Well written and well read. The way it ended is kind of haunting me though. Part of me thinks it ended perfectly and part of me found it unfulfilling.

In it to the end

A few times throughout this book I thought I was going to get bogged down in a slowing story line, but each time the character and plot development brought me right back, and I ended up hooked! The narrators are also great - flat to tearful just when they needed to be. I enjoyed this listen very much.

a must listen

The best book I've listened to this year. Entirely outside of my typical listen, but it held on to me until the last word.

Powerful Realisitc Depiction of Trauma and Hope

This author realistically and beautifully captured what it is like to go through severe trauma. And she didn't wrap it in a neat bow, but instead with acceptance and hope. Both narrators were excellent. Especially Josh. He poured himself into the emotion- bravo. Some Nastya narration during a few important moments were too flat but I am sure it is hard to depict someone shut down from trauma. My favorite line was when she differentiated between self-pity and grief and how they played out in her recovery. Only someone who
Has worked on themselves could write that.

I love this book

I don’t give many 5 stars but I can’t help it with this book. I can’t even put into words why I like it so much. I haven’t been a teenager in over 40 years so this book about these teenagers shouldn’t really appeal to me so much but it did.
It was a story about teenage love but so so much more. Maybe it’s because the two main characters were so mature. They were way past the teenaged years because of the life tragedies that they both endured.
The book kept my attention throughout. When it started coming to the end I was dreading it being over.
I listened to the audible version of the book and the two narrators did a very good job.
I will recommend this book to others.

I loved it!

This book was interesting to the last word. I loved seeing how their relationship blossomed into love and how you knew from the beginning that they were meant to be together. I loved that I didn’t know what was coming next. I loved how once she did see her attacker it was not a major confrontation and how he actually had the opportunity to apologize which may have gave her a little closure.

If you liked Eleanor and Park you will like this!

I had just finished Eleanor and Park and was wishing it hadn't ended when I came across this book. The recommendation was just that. If you loved Eleanor and Park read this next. Sold! It is different, but the story line of two teens who don't fit in with the main stream that find each other rings true. I had the day off today and spent the day packing to move and listening to this book. This morning I had 8 hours to go and here I am finished Darn. This book is a real pager turner at times and you just can't stop listening. You want to know, need to know what happens next. The male voice of the main character Josh, was hard for me to get my head around. It was hard to imagine it as a voice of a 17 year old boy. But other than that its a great book. Highly recommend!
