Publisher's summary

An international sensation, this hilarious, feel-good novel is narrated by an oddly charming and socially challenged genetics professor on an unusual quest: to find out if he is capable of true love.

Don Tillman, professor of genetics, has never been on a second date. He is a man who can count all his friends on the fingers of one hand, whose lifelong difficulty with social rituals has convinced him that he is simply not wired for romance. So when an acquaintance informs him that he would make a "wonderful" husband, his first reaction is shock. Yet he must concede to the statistical probability that there is someone for everyone, and he embarks upon The Wife Project. In the orderly, evidence-based manner with which he approaches all things, Don sets out to find the perfect partner. She will be punctual and logical - most definitely not a barmaid, a smoker, a drinker, or a late-arriver.

Yet Rosie Jarman is all these things. She is also beguiling, fiery, intelligent - and on a quest of her own. She is looking for her biological father, a search that a certain DNA expert might be able to help her with. Don's Wife Project takes a back burner to the Father Project and an unlikely relationship blooms, forcing the scientifically minded geneticist to confront the spontaneous whirlwind that is Rosie - and the realization that love is not always what looks good on paper.

The Rosie Project is a moving and hilarious novel for anyone who has ever tenaciously gone after life or love in the face of overwhelming challenges.

Good listen

I don't think this book is for everyone - looks like listeners either love it or hate it. It was well written, and well read. People that like pure fluff books will be lost. People that like blood and gore will think that nothing is happening. It held my attention from beginning to end. I liked the characters and the story- a pleasant way to spend my long commute to work. Five star listen! Making the book into a movie with Hugh Jackman as Don would work for me.

Quirky and funny

Loved every minute of the story, and the subtle yet dubious humor throughout gives a subtle yet distinct feel to the main character.

Delightful, funny, and heartwarming read

I enjoyed every minute of listening to the Rosie Project. It's a story of a highly intelligent, socially awkward, genetics professor finding friendship and love. It is a story both witty and insightful, light-hearted and touching.

Not what I expected

I thought this was going to be a romantic novel, something safe. I will admit, it started out somewhat slow but I was taken on an emotional roller coaster leaving me excited for part 2. I really enjoyed the narrator and I think his tone was perfect for the characters he was trying to portray.

Uniquely clever.

This is a fun romantic romp that had me laughing out loud. I loved following Don around and seeing his perceptions of the world and laughing at his ideas and antics. The book only briefly hints that Don may or may not have Asperger’s, it is interesting trying to figure out if he does. While I liked Rosie, she did have a few hang ups for me to really love her character. I also thought it was funny how things seemed to be so dire and then Don gets rewarded for it, whether it is because nobody wants to deal with him or because he is just too smart for his own good. For those of you out there who do not want sex scenes, there is no sex in the book, but does have cuss words. Narrator does a really good job.
