Publisher's summary

An international sensation, this hilarious, feel-good novel is narrated by an oddly charming and socially challenged genetics professor on an unusual quest: to find out if he is capable of true love.

Don Tillman, professor of genetics, has never been on a second date. He is a man who can count all his friends on the fingers of one hand, whose lifelong difficulty with social rituals has convinced him that he is simply not wired for romance. So when an acquaintance informs him that he would make a "wonderful" husband, his first reaction is shock. Yet he must concede to the statistical probability that there is someone for everyone, and he embarks upon The Wife Project. In the orderly, evidence-based manner with which he approaches all things, Don sets out to find the perfect partner. She will be punctual and logical - most definitely not a barmaid, a smoker, a drinker, or a late-arriver.

Yet Rosie Jarman is all these things. She is also beguiling, fiery, intelligent - and on a quest of her own. She is looking for her biological father, a search that a certain DNA expert might be able to help her with. Don's Wife Project takes a back burner to the Father Project and an unlikely relationship blooms, forcing the scientifically minded geneticist to confront the spontaneous whirlwind that is Rosie - and the realization that love is not always what looks good on paper.

The Rosie Project is a moving and hilarious novel for anyone who has ever tenaciously gone after life or love in the face of overwhelming challenges.

Great story! Laughed out loud.

Any additional comments?

Narrator was great EXCEPT he got so quiet when reading women's voices that I could not hear him. Fortunately he was narrating male characters for the most part. I listen while driving and volume of the female voices was mostly lost.

Quirky

A very unusual love story that was well written and worth the listen. A brilliant professor with mild autism tries to apply logic to everything he does including finding a partner. It was sometimes funny sometimes cringy but alway entertaining.

Unexpected!

This was so laugh-out-loud and unexpected. Not your run-of-the-mill story. The main characters were not like anyone I have ever met but would like to. Very real but you don't often encounter such real feelings - and people hiding and showing themselves - sometimes, but not always. Different and loved it.

Disconnected ending

Fun book - didn’t think I would like it in the beginning almost stopped in beginning
would be good for others to understand this personality type

The ending was rushed and disconnected. I had to read the last few pages twice and kept thinking I must be stupid to not actually know this answer.

Wonderful, humorous and heart warming!

Where does The Rosie Project rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

The Rosie Project ranks in the top 10 of my audiobooks.

Which character – as performed by Dan O'Grady – was your favorite?

The main character is my favorite. I love how he takes everything so literally and the impact it has on the other characters in the story.

Who was the most memorable character of The Rosie Project and why?

Again, the main character is the most memorable. His actions and interpretations of each interaction with others results in humorous and memorable situations.

Any additional comments?

We listened to this story during a long drive across Texas. We laughed so often at the many different encounters the main character has as he searches for the right partner. I don't normally choose this type of story but am so glad I did. We eagerly downloaded book 2, "The Rosie Effect," because we thoroughly enjoyed this book. You won't be disappointed with this book. It will leave you with a smile on your face and in your heart. Will definitely listen again while anxiously awaiting book 3!

Very funny

Possibly not PC but I thought it was one of the funniest most heart warming books I’ve read in a long time.

Fun Read!

Very entertaining read, especially if you have known people with Aspergers. The dead-pan narration was perfect for the material. In a fun way, it was also an insightful interpretation of what it may be like to have difficulty understanding one's own feelings, and those of others. I love that it provided a view of this person's Autism as simply a way of looking at the world, and not a disability.

fast paced with subtle humor at every turn

It took a bit to get adjusted to the narrator's tempo as the story and mind of the protagonist were extremely fast paced. I felt my mind wasn't keeping up at first. (If you've ever seen the British series "IT Crowd" you will find Don of The Rosie Project to be much like Moss on the show.) However, after re-listening to the first few chapters I got into the flow of the book and caught all the subtleties that I had missed the first time. The story was delightful and I couldn't wait to find out if the methodical and nerdy geneticist found his perfect match in the end.
