Publisher's summary

Following the smash-hit sci-fi comedy The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, The Restaurant at the End of the Universe is the second part in Douglas Adams' multi media phenomenon and cult classic series, read by Martin Freeman.

If you've done six impossible things this morning, why not round it off with breakfast at Milliways, the Restaurant at the end of the Universe?

Which is exactly what the crew of the Heart of Gold plan to do. There's just the small matter of escaping the Vogans, avoiding being taken to the most totally evil world in the Galaxy and teaching a spaceship how to make a proper cup of tea.

And did anyone actually make a reservation?

Follow Arthur Dent's galactic (mis)adventures in the rest of the trilogy with five parts: Life, the Universe and Everything, So Long, and Thanks for All the Fish, and Mostly Harmless.

Martin Freeman ruined this book series for me

Any additional comments?

The interpretation of the characters I found really off, especially following Stephen Fry's interpretations for the first book. While I've read the books previously and thoroughly enjoyed them - the story is brilliant - Martins reading put me off and i couldnt even get through it.

A food for your brain

I am a fan of Douglas Adams, so I might be biased. I like this book and narrator's performance included gives you wonderful entertainment.

Could be better

The long passages of narration really need to be performed, like someone is speaking, or it is just too boring. The voices for the characters are good though.

Always 42

It may not be Stephen Fry narrating book 2 but by the gods, it's Martin Freeman and he does an equally brilliant job narrating this classic!

Another good reading!

A lot of people are comparing Martin Freeman to Stephen Fry and that’s like chalk and cheese. Anyway, I enjoyed this very much and it was classic Douglas Adams. I didn’t think though that they thought sounded like Donald Trump which I wasn’t crazy about because I hate Donald Trump and I didn’t wanna hear his voice!

Shrill, Screechy, Unlistenable Narration

After Stephen Fry's soothing voice in the first book the cartoonish voices of this narrator grate on one's eardrums. The sample you hear may not contain the irritating parts. You've been warned.

Good but not as good as the first one

Pretty good but not as good as the first book. Still makes me want to read more.

A little panic!

The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy was my first audiobook experience ever and it played an important role in me gaining this habit. I was so excited to start the second book. I was a bit disappointed to find out that the narrator was not Steven Fry but Martin Freeman. Although not as magical as Fry, I believe Freeman did a good job and was sentimental since he played Arthur in the movie.

Storywise, it felt like nothing really happened. I did enjoy the funny dialogue but it did not meet my expectations considering how much I enjoyed the first book.

Overall, it is still entertaining but I expect more from this series. Hopefully, it will pick up in book 3.
