Heartwarming

This is basically a story about a newly wed couple that headed west during prohibition to start their life together. Interspersed with that story is the story of a family forced to sell their ranch after 2 consecutive years of drought. Hard times hit both families and family quilts held deep meaning for both. I enjoyed the characters and the story which was sad, funny and heartwarming. The narrator was perfect for the story. Many of the male voices she created were hard to tell apart, but because of the way it was written, it was still easy to know who was speaking. I heartily recommend this book.

Enjoyable and engaging

Another good Elm Creek Quilt addition to this most enjoyable series. This one follows Elizabeth and her new husband from Elm Creek to California during the 1920s where a ranch awaits them in an idealic valley. Unfortunately, things don't turn out quite as they hoped and life takes a difficult turn. I very much enjoyed the interesting characters in this Elm Creek story. Chiaverini has developed several complex and interesting "real people" to enhance this story and, as always, her storytelling ability is evident as it's hard to not care what happens to Lars and Rosa and May and others. My only complaint was that I found Elizabeth's tolerance of her husband's self-pity a bit annoying, but I also realize I'm reading about a "good girl" from the 1920s. I enjoyed the book very much and, as always, Christina Moore does an excellent job with narrating Chiaverini's story.

Good but at times difficult

I felt a bit torn at times during this story. It may be what made it good. There were some uncertainties I think may be resolved in the next book. These have been a pleasure to keep me company! I highly recommend.

Different

Although the story was good, not what I expected from an Elm Creek Quilter book.

Avid Elm Creek fan and this one was great!

I listen to these books in order and love that some are recent, some go back in time and some filter back and forth. This was a great book and I loved to hear the story of Elizabeth. I remembered her from previous stories, but wished I had recalled more of her story. I liked going back in time, easy listening and another great addition.

Held my interest, complex story

I enjoyed this book because the complex story and developed characters really kept me engaged. Some parts were predictable, but that didn't diminish my enjoyment of the experience. I think that the narrator does an exceptional performance.

Filling in the missing pieces

Would you listen to The Quilter's Homecoming again? Why?

I would listen to this again so that I can better understand why Elizabeth never came back to Elm Creek or the East Coast. Also, to make sure I didn't miss anything.

What was one of the most memorable moments of The Quilter's Homecoming?

For me the most memorable moment was when Elizabeth realized that Rosa and her family had survived and were happy.

What does Christina Moore bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

She brings the characters to life and the images in my mind are more real.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

Overall this book was a "tear jerk-er" with all its ups and downs. Even though the ending was a happy one it still managed to bring a tear to my eye.

Any additional comments?

Just another great book in this series. Love the way everything comes together.
