Publisher's summary

For the millions of listeners fascinated by Dan Brown's revelations about Mary Magdalen in The Da Vinci Code, here, at last, is their chance to meet the Gospel's most provocative woman face to face - on her own terms. Make way for a new Magdalen. Born on a Celtic isle to eight warrior-witch mothers, Maeve is raised to be as brave as any hero. In her stubborn, enchanting voice, she recounts her perilous quest for the young man, Esus, whose life she once saved from druid sacrifice. Captured and sold to a Roman Madam, Maeve is sustained by a fierce sense of identity, compassion for her sister whores, and her unquenchable love. When she wins her freedom and finds her lost lover, a stormy life begins for both as we follow the Passion story through the eyes of Jesus' partner - disciple to no man. Not even the one she loves. By turns feisty and funny, outrageous and tender, this Celtic Mary Magdalen challenges all stereotypes, both old and new age, and brings us to a transforming encounter with the divine feminine made flesh. Elizabeth Cunningham is the author of the novels The Return of the Goddess and The Wild Mother. She comes from nine generations of Episcopal priests. Though she managed to avoid becoming an Episcopal priest, she was ordained as an interfaith minister of spiritual counsel in the Cathedral of St. John the Divine. She balances writing with a counseling practice.

Beautiful, Epic Heresy!

First, let me say that Heather McNeil's narration is nothing short of brilliant.

That said, the Maeve Chronicles are now my favorite series of books.

Ms. Cunningham's portrayal of the Western world of 2000 years ago is deeply researched and lively. The story is rich and complex, moving and inspiring.

Oh, did say it was "heresy"? This novel feels more true to me than the canonical gospels, or the Torah, Koran, Dhammapada, Vedas, or indeed any of the classical patriarchal scriptures.

Maybe not every detail is accurate, but the overall thrust rings profoundly true down to my core.

If you only read four books this year, make them the Maeve Chronicles (Magdalen Rising, The Passion of Mary Magdalen, Bright Dark Madonna, and Black Robed Madonna - in that order).

I promise you will be changed for the better.

Phenomenal work of historical fiction… a retelling of the Passion Story from the perspective of Mary Magdalene

Phenomenal work of historical fiction… a retelling of the Passion Story from the perspective of Mary Magdalene, aka Maeve of the Isle of Apples (present day Anglesey), a Druidic Student, who becomes Slave to the Romans, Priestess of Isis, and a follower & wife of Jesus. If you are in need of a literal retelling of what little is known about her & a religious account from a patriarchal point of view, this book is NOT for you. If you seek to open your mind and marvel at the possibilities of They mystery, magic and miracles inherent in this story, the wisdom of Matriarchal societies & the possible link between old world spiritual centers, from the Celtic Isles to current day Israel, read on. Beautifully narrated.Mind blowing.

I am hooked.

I am a religious skeptic, but a spiritual person. The protagonist Maeve has captured my heart. I want it to be a take of truth. I can’t wait for the next book in the series.

Beyond Belief

Not o ly can Cunningham tell a story that brings truth to the tail of fiction, but the narrator wraps you up in her voices and carries you back in time. Somewhere it is all our story

These books are changing my life

Best series i have ever read so far. This author, is incredible. Everything I have ever been looking for in a story. The way that she compiled all of the various cultures and their Magic’s and weaves them together in the story of yeshua and Mary Magdalene (Maeve) awakens something deep in my soul of souls. I cry, I laugh, I love... I am transported to a time that my spirit remembers & memories deep in my cells are awakened. These books are a must read for anyone on the path of the wild, untamed, yet devoted & empowered feminine.
Thank you for writing these books 🤍✨

The story and the narration are excellent!

This story and the narrator pull you in from the minute you start listening! The story is written so well and the detail to every scene was so well written. The narrator was so good that as you listen you think there are several narrators. I purchased this book on a whim. I normally don’t do that. But I am so glad that I did! This is a great listen!!!

Truest love

Loved the way story of Mary Magdalene and Jesus is told. The details, the Celtic priestess background, the goddess. I had many vivid dreams during my experience of listening to the book. If you love the alabaster jar, you’ll love this book.
