Publisher's summary

This number-one New York Times best-selling novel is Sidney Sheldon at his best...a novel complete with tortured romantic entanglements, reverses of fortune, thrilling suspense, and ultimate justice.

In Paris, in Washington, and in Greece in a fabulous villa, an innocent American becomes a bewildered, horror-stricken pawn in a game of vengeance and betrayal. She is Catherine Douglas, a woman caught in a web of four lives intertwined by passion as her handsome husband pursues an incredibly beautiful film star...and as Constantin Demeris, a legendary Greek tycoon, tightens the strands that control them all.

Forget the movie. Read the book.

I saw this movie back in 1977. Thought it was great but it made me want to read the book. The book was better. Fast forward 35 years and there's an audiobook. Why not and guess what, the audiobook was even better than the print copy! and that made me want to go back and watch the movie again. This is where the love story ends. Watching the movie today after listening to the book, was pathetic.
Steven Pacey's reading is great and Sidney Sheldon's story holds up. It kept me awake until 5am.

Fantastic -- Exceptional -- Compulsively Readable

"The Other Side of Midnight" is an exceptional audiobook in every way. Sidney Sheldon was a brilliant writer; the characters, the pacing, the plot, the dialogue, the many interwoven threads that he so deftly handles are among the best examples in 20th century popular fiction. The settings came alive to me as did the characters. Steven Pacey's narration matched the quality of the writing. Pacey handles all the various accents and characters with finesse. This book is not so much read to you as it is acted.

Although "The Other Side of Midnight" was first published in 1973, it in no way feels dated. And although there are sex scenes, they do always serve to advance the plot. Modern authors could take a lesson or two from the late Mr. Sheldon. This book has such depth and is so interesting, but is so well paced, that it only leaves the reader (or listener) wanting more. Indeed, I have just purchased the sequel.

One of Sheldon's Best!

Admittedly, Master of the Game is, and probably will always be, my personal favorite as it was the first novel I read (back in the early 80's) and thus began my love of reading fiction. I read (in book form) every book he'd, and 5 other authors, had written up until I started college. Then, of course, my attention turned to school and I just didn't have time to read fiction. Now, some 35 or so years later, being retired, I have time to listen to all of his books through Audible and the first one I listened to was "The Other Side of Midnight". It was like reading it for the first time all over again and it was glorious! Interesting complicated characters, many twists and turns fill the story line from the very beginning to the very end! Next I will purchase "Memories of Midnight ", which I have not yet read, then one by one I'll re-read EVERY Sidney Sheldon masterpiece followed by Danielle Steel, Dean R Koontz, etc until I've listened to my entire original library from so long ago.
YOU CANNOT MISS THIS ONE OR MASTER OF THE GAME & MISTRESS OF THE GAME! IF YOU READ NOTHING ELSE, START WITH THESE 3 (I'm sure the sequel to "The Other Side of Midnight", "Memories of Midnight" will be just as great, but I haven't read it yet so I'll let you know soon! Happy Reading,

Sidney Sheldon is indeed the master

I read most of Sidney Sheldon’s books years ago. I am rediscovering them & they are even better then I remember! Hooked until the bitter end. Amazing!

The Other Side of Midnight

Sidney Sheldon was one of the most prolific writers of the 30s-90s, including television (I Dream of Jeanie), film (Easter Parade), Broadway (Annie Get Your Gun) and many novels and TV mini-series based on those novels. Anything you choose to read or watch by Sidney Sheldon will be a delight. He was an amazingly talented man.

The Other Side of Midnight is actually a two-book mystery series dating way back to the early-1970s. Both books are narrated by Steven Pacey. The Other Side of Midnight is just over fourteen hours of listening in unabridged audiobook format, Memories of Midnight just over nine, both released by Phoenix Books.

The Other Side of Midnight plot. A drop-dead-handsome WWII flyer, Larry, has a romantic interlude with a soon-to-be-famous-actress, drop-dead-beautiful Noel. He dumps her. Shortly, a somewhat naive and vulnerable lead character, Catherine, falls for and marries the flyer. The rest of the story is based on years of Noel's obsessive revenge.

Memories of Midnight plot. The story opens with Catherine living in a convent, her memories gone. Within a few years, memories begin to float to the surface and the story continues to a satisfying conclusion.

Narration by Steven Pacey is fine, male/female voices, accents, etc., no complaints. However, bumped the Audible recording to 1.25.

Liked. Everything about the stories. There are amazing twists, surprises, good guys, bad guys, intricate and vivid details. These are page turning, sweeping stories, there are no instances of fill, suspense riddles every chapter. Contrary to other authors of this period, like Herman Wouk or James Clavell, Sidney Sheldon's stories have less purple prose and are action-oriented, probably the results of years in the more visual mediums of television, film, Broadway. Squeaky clean reads, no explicit sex nor offensive language.

Not so hot. That there is no more Sidney Sheldon. He died in 2007.

Highly recommended mysteries. Enjoy!

Well written, well told.

Well written and masterfully developed. I found myself driving home the long way. And Steven Pacey dissapears in the characters.

Entertaining

I had good memories from having read this book a long time ago. This time the plot seemed a little too much convenient at times, and more linear and obvious than I remembered. The narrator was very good, not excellent, but overall it was an enjoyable experience. Not all readings are masterpieces, right?

The Other Side of Midnight

In my opinion, he was one of the best fictional writers of all time. Many years ago I read all of his books in paperback. Now I hope to enjoy them on Audiobook.
