Abridgment impedes story.
I didn’t realize when I purchased this that it was an abridgment. As I l’d read the book in paperback, I began to understand exactly how many pivotal events and how much character development were being omitted.
I often listen to audio books as a means to relax, rather than discovering new works — if I had no previous knowledge of the novel as written, very little would make sense to me.
The lector is quite good, but no matter how much expression she imbues with the phrasing, if the incidents make no sense, there’s only so much she can do.

A reminder of how much I hate abridged audiobooks
Story seemed pretty superficial. The gaps in the story left little doubt that it was abridged. I couldn't stick with it through until the end.

this is the abridged version. the real book is over 20 hours long. they leave so much out. it feels rushed and you don't get the same experience as the real version.

What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?
Less Sex and disturbing imagery
What was most disappointing about Philippa Gregory’s story?
I liked the story I just was disappointed about all the sex involved. Not my type of book, I would not read it again or recommend it.

Too much editing
This was a great book when I actually read it many years ago.
Unfortunately this audiobook appears to have many details cut out or never brought in. Long silences between chapters lead me to believe the former.
The loss of detail renders this version sterile.
Really sorry I wasted a credit on this.
