Publisher's Summary

Something sinister is at work in Hyde River, an isolated old mining town in the mountains of the Pacific Northwest. Under the cover of darkness, it strikes without warning. The latest victim, nature photographer Cliff Benson, was brutally killed while camping in the mountains. When the sheriff closes the case, chalking it up to the work of a rogue bear, Cliff's brother Steve refuses to let the matter drop.

Attractive auburn-haired Sheriff's Deputy Tracy Ellis isn't convinced either. And when another person turns up missing, she joins Steve in his search for the truth. But the harder Steve presses the townsfolk for information, the more they close the ranks, as if sworn to secrecy.

Steve and Tracy are drawn closer to each other and to the town's terrible secret. What they discover is a predator more terrifying than anything they had imagined and a town in the grip of unspeakable evil.

    "Wonderful Book!"

When I frist heard about this book from my friends, I was not sure what to expect, but I am so happy that I bought this book. It is like a Stephen King novel, but with a Godly message! I Loved This Book!

    "Couldn't bear the recording"

This audio recording was so bad, I couldn't listen for more than 30 minutes. I really like Frank Peretti but it looks like I'm going to have to read this one myself. Anybody thinking about purchasing this, listen to the sample first, and ask yourself, "Can I bear 4 and a half hours of this?"

I've been an Audible addict since 2001. I like fantasy, intrigue, detective mysteries, love stories (not soft porn), and books with a Christian theme (and yes I know some don't think that fits with my love of fantasy). Since my husband retired I have less time to listen, but I always get through at least 4 books a month! I love to stock up during sales!!!

    "poor recorcing"

Maybe there was something wrong with my download but this is the first time I have run across this so I don't think so. This seems to have been recorded over the top of another book. You could hear another voice (although not make out the words) in the background, which was very annoying. It reminded me of the old radio shows my father and I used to listen to - kind of tinny sounding. The book itself was not bad, but good luck getting a better quality of sound than I got!

    "Stupid Story"

What a stupid story! Unless you are an evangelical christian you won't find this worth the listen. The reader was sometimes hard to understand as he tried to do the different voices. The characters were all predictable as was the ending. The story was simple and laughable.

    "The Oath"

This is a fast moving novel and satisfies my love being a Christian and of history and mystery stories. I listened to it in one session whilst at my sewing machine.

Frank Peretti builds up the tension and his characters and I was swept along with the story. It comes to a spine chilling yet glorious end. I thought Joseph Campanella was brilliant as the narrator.

I shall be looking out for more Peretti audio books.
