    "Simple pleasure"

I simply enjoyed the story! I am most grateful to Eve Matheson, who does not over-play the parts, as I felt was done in the Reluctant Widow. Matheson gets the wit and irony just perfect.

In the story, two admirable and intelligent lovers get star-crossed and find their way again through their own decency and common sense as well as the the help and hindrence of various other characters. And a separate scene between Tiffy and Lawrence -- shallow and self-centered throughout -- is worth reading for. I found myself laughing as Heyer continued to reveal new levels of their self-centerededness.

In any audio book, I want an author and a narrator who develop characters that I increasingly grow to like or at least understand. For a love story, this was great.

    "Delightful"

Heyer at her marevelous, amusing, historically accurate best. In The Nonesuch she overturns one stereotype after another, and just when we think we have all the characters sorted out, she offers a startling glint of sympathy for some provoking character, or silliness in someone generally wise. Eve Matheson's excellent reading helps keep me chuckling; I notice new humor each time I listen.

    "More please"

I have loved Georgette Heyer since I read my first book at about 13 years. And I have read them all. And have been very happy to buy each and every one Audible releases, check regularly for new ones. Nonesuch is one of my favorites, with great characters and hilarious situations. Recommend to anyone who enjoys Heyer.

    "great"

Most of Gerogette Heyer's novels are famtastic, even though there are a few that are not so good. Nonesuch is a great Heyer novel. The romance is highly entertaining (even though at one time I was a little agravated with the male half of the couple). The book has great characters. There are some truly comic ones, some villians, and some georgeous ones. Georgette Heyer is one of my all time favorite authors (I have been reading, rereading, listening to and re-listening to her books for over twenty-five years!) and I have almost completed my collection of every one of her books in one or more formats(print, tape, CD or MP3). I have recommended her novels to many people, who in turn recommended her novels to others. I am now responsible for "creating" a lot of other Heyer fans. One fan told me that she would pick up Heyer whenever she was sad, sick or down because she knew that nothing bad ever happened in a Heyer book, that there would be humor and romance, and that all would turn out well. This was comforting to her. I agree.

Heyer has the remarkable talent to make characters come alive. Her understanding of human nature (noble, absurd, humorous and all other forms) is uncanny and she has the unique ability to draw these characters in words. If you read Nonesuch or one of her many other great books, you too will probably become a Heyer fan.

    "Nonpareil Narrator"

An interesting story where Ms Heyer fleshes out the secondary characters more then usual. In fact I've often thought that the 'cast' took the reader's attention from the hero & heroine! Ms Heyer manages to ensure a very satisfactory ending as usual.

I've read this story a few times & while I enjoyed the book it wasn't a favourite of mine. That changed when I listened to Eve Matheson's narration; she pitches her tones & adds accents where appropriate. She brought all the characters to life; her interpretation of the spoilt heiress Tiffany's speech was so excellent I found myself muttering, 'Spoilt brat!' when Tiffany was throwing a tantrum.

    "Loved it -- but..."

I loved listened to Heyer books -- more than reading them because the use of language is so much better when HEARD, especially with the British accent. I enjoy the stories, the heroes and the heroines. I am listening to all her books on my commute, and can't wait to get back into the car!
The Nonesuch met all my expectations. Well, almost all. It ended so suddenly, that I feel like something was left out. I felt unsatisfied. I'm tempted to get the actual book to see if it really ended this way, or if the recording just cut off.

    "Delightful"

The Nonesuch is a leader of the Corinthian set, a fine horseman, and a man of impeccable taste. Miss Trent is a well-born but impecunious woman forced to take a position as a "Governess/Companion" to a young, beautiful and heartless heiress (Tiffany) of less than noble birth, but surpassing beauty. When the Nonesuch comes to the neighbourhood on a matter of business, he ends up staying well past his original intention. But is it to chase after the heiress? Hardly. This is, after all, a Georgette Heyer novel!

As always, there are many turns and miscues, but it all works out in the end. But it's the characters, the wit and bit of language, and the sheer fun of a Heyer that makes it all so much fun and such a delightful read. The Nonesuch is well read by Eve Matheson, and makes for a great listen.

"Yes, it really ends that way (no spoilers)"
    Any additional comments?

One of the things that I do not like about contemporary romance articles is the endings. They generally go on for a few pages after it is clear the story is over. Heyer's books end the instant the various strands of the story are resolved. It can be jarring, but it is also delightful.

I can quote the first sentence of many of my favorite novels. Everyone must know the first line of Pride and Prejudice or Tale of Two Cities. If you love Heyer though, you are much more likely to know the last line, even if on first reading you checked twice to see if that really was the last line.

    "Fantastic story and great narration"

The narrator does a great job of creating a new voice for every character. It's easy to distinguish between multiple characters all interacting with each other. The story itself is lighthearted and a pleasure to listen to.

    "The Nonesuch"

I was so surprised by the previous comments. I thought the narration was very good compared to some of the Georgette Heyer books I have purchased. She managed to bring the characters to life and made me smile with some of the humorous passages. Will listen to again. Well done. Perhaps she can read Arabella which is one of my favourites and not yet available

    "Perfect escapist Regency romance"

I love Georgette Heyer although or possibly because all her books have the same elements: impossibly splendid hero who is a very pink of the ton, an unlikely heroine, a glamorous rival, misunderstandings galore, epic descriptions of cravats, landaus and everyone's clothes. The thing that sets Heyer apart is the impeccable research, splendid use of Regency slang and the fact that they are cracking good stories and immense amounts of escapist fun.

All they need is a good narrator and Eve Matheson does just fine.

A cup of tea, a slice of cake and some Georgette Heyer. Bliss.

But, Jeez, that cover is grim. What were they thinking?

Not one of my favourite Georgette Heyers but very nicely brought to life by the narrator, Eve Matheson. I loved her interpretation of the characters - what a shrew Tiffany is! This one has gone to my "play again" shelf.

What made the experience of listening to The Nonesuch the most enjoyable?

    It was funny and intriguing

What other book might you compare The Nonesuch to, and why?

Many of Georgette Heyer's novels, but the wit and humour is always fresh and hilarous in each of her books

What about Eve Matheson’s performance did you like?

the way she can put such expression to each character you can just see their faces!

    "The Nonesuch"

I bought this story because I love all Georgette Heyer's books. The Nonesuch together with Frederica are my favourites.
Life in Regency times is as usua discribed beautifully, the characters are brilliant. Georgette Heyer is clever and witty. Her books make me laugh.
I own all of Georgette Heyer books in hardback and have most of them on my ipod. This download will not be amongst them, the reader has ruined it.
