Publisher's summary

He was Ramses the Damned in ancient Egypt, but awoke in opulent Edwardian London as Dr. Ramsey, expert in Egyptology. He mixes with the aristocrats and samples their voluptuous lifestyle, but it is for his beloved, Cleopatra, that he longs, and will do anything to be with....

Great Story, Terrible Abridged.

I mistakenly bought the abridged version of this great book... So much lost in this version that it is really not worth it. The performance and Story suffer from the major cuts from this version that it leaves open too many questions. Get the full version.

Good Book

Loved the book, although I have not read an Anne Rice book I did not love. It is a good story and it is book 1 of 3 in athis series and I am very much looking forward to reading the next 2. I highly reccomend this book and all the other Anne Rice books.

Mr York - GREAT - The script - BAD

I have previously read this as a book and bought this version to listen to on a long drive. I have to say, this was disappointing. The first part of the recording was reasonable in regards to the book, but the last part of the recording strayed so far from the book that the entire meaning was lost for the most part.

Michael York is FANTASTIC as a reader and his voice is capable of changing to match the characters he is speaking for. He is the only real plus for this recording.

Wonderful Reading

I had read this book when it was first released and enjoyed it at that time (always hoped that Anne would revisit The Mummy like the Vampire series). Michael York has a wonderful speaking/theatrical voice. A definite win-win combination!

Too rushed

This is an Abridged version of the original book. While the narrator's performance is very good, the music sometimes gets in the way of listening to the narrator. A lot of the background character development and details of the story were edited out.

Didn’t say abridged in title.

Anne Rice was amazing as usual. But, I wished it was more clear that this was an abridged book before I purchased.

One of Anne Rices best!

This is one of the few Anne Rice stand alone novels, no sequel... yet. It's smooth and audible has done a fairly good job at having Micheal York narrate. Please be aware though, this narration is missing chunks of plot line and conversation from the original text. It's lost the very fine details that make Anne Rice shine.

Worst performance I've heard

music drowns out the narration repeatedly. Wish there was an unabridged version or one without the loud music.
