Publisher's summary

In the latest installment of this infinitely enjoyable and best-selling series, Precious Ramotswe is doing what she does best--helping people with their problems and enjoying the simple pleasures of life.

Mma Ramotswe is busy investigating her latest case: a woman who is looking for her family. The problem is, the woman doesn't know her real name of whether any members of her family are now living. Meanwhile, Phuti Radiphuti has bought Mma Makutsi a glorious new bed. Unfortunately, it will inadvertently cause her several sleepless nights. And life is no less complicated at Tlokweng Road Speedy Motors, where Mr. J.L.B. Matekoni--Mma Ramotswe's estimable husband--has fallen under the sway of a doctor who has promised a miracle cure for his daughter's medical condition, which Mma Ramotswe finds hard to believe. But Precious Ramotswe deals with these difficulties with her usual grace and good humor, and in the end discovers that the biggest miracles in life are often the small ones.

The story is a miracle

The reader is perfect, timing equally to the majestic simplicity of this book. The story has subplots that are wise stories about how we could be in tough times.

Just lovely --

Another pleasant little tale -- nothing deep, but I don't listen to this author for deep -- just to amuse myself.... and it does amuse!

Totally Addictive

I have found all the titles in the No.1 Ladies detective agency series fabulous. Miracle at speedy motors did not disappoint. They are light mysteries with superb character development and breath-takingly discriptive settings. No sooner am I finished with the newest title and I find myself longing for the next.

An Excellent Series

My goal for this year is to read the entire series. I read the series several years ago. There weren't as many books in the series at that time.

If is a "clean" read. With romance, mystery, suspense and a look at a different part of the world. I highly recommend it.

A standout volume in this engaging series

I have been reading ( listening) to this wonderful series about the myriad of cases solved by the No 1 Ladies’ Detective Agency. This novel is the tenth one and it just stands out as super interesting and surprising with unexpected turns.

The Recognition of True Miracles

When I need a break from crime novels or other kinds of books, I keep returning to The No. 1 Ladies' Detective Agency. I don't know what I will do when I have exhausted them all, as they have become like conversations with old friends . . . balm to my weary soul. And it makes me want to be a little more like Precious Ramotswe, a little kinder, a little more forgiving, and to also remember the good things that my own father taught me. 😊 In this installment, someone is leaving menacing letters addressed to Mma Ramotswe and she believes she knows who is writing them. Should she confront him? Mr. J.L.B. Matekoni is called out in a rain storm to help a powerful man with his car, a doctor . . . and that doctor is promising a miracle cure for Motholeli, their foster daughter, who is wheelchair bound. The ever optomistic Mr. J.L.B. Matekoni wants to believe the doctor, but the always realistic Mma Ramotswe has her doubts. What are the doctor's real motives? And then there is the matter of Mma Makutsi and Phuti Radiphuti who go shopping for a bed, coming upon a very expensive, large bed, which Phuti Radiphuti eventually agrees to buy for the couple. Since they are not yet married, he has it delivered to Mma Makutsi's house . . . a very small house. The delivery men cannot fit it through the door. Dismayed, Mma Makutsi has them leave it outside until she can make arrangements to have it moved. Then comes a very rare occurance in Botswana, a life-giving downpour of rain, which will make the difference between life and death in many regions of the country. In a land parched from the sun, the crops will now survive . . . and Mma Makutsi's fancy large bed will be soaked. The resolution of all these . . . and more . . . issues are mind boggling for Mma Ramotswe. But, as usual, she does not rush getting to the answers . . . she retreats into the land of her father and watches her cattle . . . those which her father left for her . . . and the cares of the present day vanish away. She will tackle the problems, one by one, as they come . . . with gentleness and wisdom. The Miracle at Speed Motors is one of the best in the series. Thank you, Alexander McCall Smith. 😊

What is a Miracle?

Motolalee might have a chance to see a new doctor, but lesser problems present just as much of a prospect for miracles at the No. 1 Ladies Detective Agency. Mma Makutsi might learn something important in this story.
