Publisher's summary

In the latest installment of this infinitely enjoyable and best-selling series, Precious Ramotswe is doing what she does best--helping people with their problems and enjoying the simple pleasures of life.

Mma Ramotswe is busy investigating her latest case: a woman who is looking for her family. The problem is, the woman doesn't know her real name of whether any members of her family are now living. Meanwhile, Phuti Radiphuti has bought Mma Makutsi a glorious new bed. Unfortunately, it will inadvertently cause her several sleepless nights. And life is no less complicated at Tlokweng Road Speedy Motors, where Mr. J.L.B. Matekoni--Mma Ramotswe's estimable husband--has fallen under the sway of a doctor who has promised a miracle cure for his daughter's medical condition, which Mma Ramotswe finds hard to believe. But Precious Ramotswe deals with these difficulties with her usual grace and good humor, and in the end discovers that the biggest miracles in life are often the small ones.

simple story telling

I recommend this latest book in the #1 Ladies Detective Agency Series by Alexander McCall Smith. In this series, the characters are funny and human, without the violence and sex that are so often elements of mystery books. If you are in the mood for a light simple story, this will fill that need. If you are following the series as I am, you'll wonder if Precious Ramotswe's "engaged" assistant detective, Grace Makutsi will ever get married; maybe in the next book. I can't help but want to rush the storyteller! Just like in life, things happen in their own time.

Not one word too long

Once again Alexander McCall Smith chronicles the happenings at the No. 1 Ladies Detective Agency and at Speedy Motors with his usual wit and wisdom, and not one extra word. McCall Smith has the singular gift of writing with awareness, consciousness, acceptance and insight into the human condition without even the merest suggestion of psychobabble. I like the psychobabble books too, no question about that, but this author seems to accomplish the same result with his fictional crew and their life stories.

And many bows to the narrator, who continues to bring this now familiar Botswanan cast of characters to life!

I love these books!

I love these books! I love the characters, I love their names, I love the narrator, and I love the poignant stories. If you are just getting interested in this series, maybe from watching the excellent HBO series, then start at the beginning and keep on going. You won't be disappointed. This book is one of my favorites.

Wonderful as always!

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Yes.

What does Lisette Lecat bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

She brings the characters to life.

Any additional comments?

These books are like dear old friends or like a familiar face in a crowd of strangers. I have thoroughly enjoyed listening to every one of them. I so appreciate that there is no profanity, obscenity, explicit sexual content, and gratuitous violence. The stories are both compelling and a pleasure to listen to without all that.

love going to Botswana!

I have loved this series, right up to now...just finished the Miracle....and am feeling a little disappointed. MaRomotswe was not her happy optimistic self. Ms Lecat was fabulous as always#
