Publisher's summary

Dear Anna, What I have to tell you is difficult to write, but I know it will be far more difficult for you to hear, and I'm so sorry.

The unfinished letter is the only clue Tara and Emerson have to the reason behind their close friend Noelle's suicide. Everything they knew about Noelle - her calling as a midwife, her passion for causes, her love for her friends and family - described a woman who embraced life. Yet there was so much they didn't know.

With the discovery of the letter and its heartbreaking secret, Noelle's friends begin to uncover the truth about this complex woman who touched each of their lives - and the life of a desperate stranger - with love and betrayal, compassion and deceit.

Interesting concept of a rarely visited subject

Would you try another book from Diane Chamberlain and/or the narrators?

yes

How would you have changed the story to make it more enjoyable?

I wish the baby's grave had been found to give closure to the mother.
I didn't really like or dislike Noel. Perhaps more stories about her mid wifery would have helped.

Any additional comments?

The book was an easy and interesting read. It was a little predictable but worth listening to.

Annoying Narrator

Any additional comments?

I hate to give a low rating on the performance because I thought the narrators did a great job... except for one. The narrator for Noelle ruined the listening experience for me. Was she trying to sing her way through the book?

Good story, not all good narrators

I thought the story was interesting, but would have been better if they left out Tara and Noelle. Emerson is fine and I love Abby Craden’s narration. However, Tara’s character is so self absorbed and mopey that you spend most of her parts just hoping she will shut up. The person reading Noelle is pretty awful, but so is the writing for her parts. I wish the Ana narrator would slow down. Overall though, I was pretty riveted the whole way through.

Riveting

Chamberlain does a spectacular job grabbing the readers attention and sustaining it throughout the entire book. I couldn’t put it down! With many twists and unforeseen plot complicities, I would never have guessed the ending. Another unexpected value of the story was how it made me think about my relationship with my own daughters.

Confessions

I really enjoyed this book! Many twists and turns. Great characters, really good stories. I went on a trip for 5 hours but wanted to know what happened to everyone so listened to the whole 11 hours in one day! Love Diane Chamberlain’s books and this is another great read! Only this time I really enjoyed the narration!

I thought I had it figured out.

I enjoyed that the ending was not as transparent as I imagined. I enjoyed the depth of the character development and emotions explored.

Very well written. It held my attention and I actually looked forward to my long commute with my friends in the story.

Review of Midwifes Confession

The story line held my attention for the most part. The last part I pretty had figured so no surprises. At times it moved too slow but my biggest complaint would be narration. First voice almost lulls you to sleep but Noelles was grating and children and male voices were awful. I would suggest the author interview the narration and maybe get 2nd opinions. Sorry about that but with most people they just wouldn’t finish the book:(
