Would you listen to The Memoirs of Cleopatra again? Why?

Yes I would! I plan to listen too it again in a few months. This was captivating.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Cleopatra! She is everything.

What about Donada Peters’s performance did you like?

Her voice was so easy to listen too! I find myself looking for other titles read by her. In fact I'm just starting another one.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes! I listened to this book so quickly even though it was over 45 hours long! I listened to this book for hours at a time and wanted more. I was and am so sad it is over.

Any additional comments?

If you want to know Cleopatra this is the book for you! It really goes from her young childhood all the way beyond her death! It is the best account of any historical figure I have ever read! Don't let the 50 hours scare you, you will thank me later! I actually have read the print version of this book and let me tell you the Audio was 10 times better! And I never would of thought that! I used to be so against Audio books but this has changed me! :D Please listen/read this book you will be forever changed.

Amazing book!

I absolutely adore this book and wanted it to never end. It was clearly well researched and kept me enthralled from beginning to end.

Fantastic escape back in time

I am fascinated by the 1st century bc, so much is going on in Egypt, Greece and Rome. The Memoirs of Cleopatra visits this time and in great detail. You are given a vivid and detailed reconstruction of Cleopatra's life and hardly want it to end which sadly it does. A great read.

Long, but worth every minute

No issues finishing the novel. Very easy to listen to, author certainly put effort into accuracy which is much appreciated

A worthwhile undertaking!

I own the physical book but at nearly 1000 pages it's almost impossible to lug around. This book is a fantastic slice of historical fiction recounting the famous events in Cleopatra's life: both love and political power struggles with Rome and the famous Roman leaders Julius Caeser and Marc Antony. Margaret George really paints a fasinating picture of Cleopatra's thoughts on all of the events of her life. interesting but SUPER LONG!

Not entirely what I expected

Would you consider the audio edition of The Memoirs of Cleopatra to be better than the print version?

I can't compare the two, I never read the print version.

What was one of the most memorable moments of The Memoirs of Cleopatra?

When the exiled Cleopatra is snuck into Caser's bedchamber rolled in a rug so that she could seduce him.

What does Donada Peters bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

It makes for a more personal sounding character.

Any additional comments?

I have heard that Cleopatra was treacherous and had her sister killed so she would have no opposition to the crown. This book seemed to make her sound more vanilla, more like things occurred in spite of her rather than by her design.

For those who find history boring.

I’ve never been interested in history, unfortunately, since so much can be gained by studying it. This is a remarkable novel intertwined with true historical accounts. I will definitely read more by this author.

Great story, but …

… the chapters marked on the audiobook on the phone don’t match the chapters called out by the narrator. I mean, they really don’t match. This makes it difficult to know when you will have a good stopping point. It’s a small issue but an oddly irritating one.
