Narrator ruins experience.

Will not be finishing the audio books. The narration change is much too jarring and he doesn’t even bother to learn the correct pronunciation of names.. not to mention the atrocious accents.

The writing is going to draw you back in

This book takes a minute to explain details and then all of a sudden the series gets really fast paced and you don’t want to put it down type of style again! Don’t get distracted or you’ll miss big things in a moment.

Richard Ferrone died😢

I had to look up Richard Ferrone because I didn’t know why they would switch narrators this far into the series. I found his obituary. He died last year (2022). I wondered if that was why, but I hear he’s coming back in a book or two. Not a fan of Frank (sorry, don’t want to hurt feelings) but maybe I’d like him reading something else. Great book though.

Speed reader.

I've listened to many books on Audible and this is the 1st time I've had to slow a book down. Not only is this a different reader than previous books but he read it way too fast, using the same rhythmic ending to most sentences. I thoroughly enjoyed the story but not so much the performance. Some of the characters' voices were rediculous (gangster style) and Zion's name was pronounced wrong the entire time.

Threw me for a loop but still enjoyed it

It took me a while to get used to the new narrator with different accents and name pronunciations. I was 2 chapters in before i realized that 'Zee-on' was the same person as Zion. LoL
once i got used to the differences I enjoyed this as much as all the other books.
being able to "read" while getting all my errands done has spoiled me. I may never pick a book up again

Not the same Narrator :(

Great series. First 7 books with one fantastic narrator. I’m sure that had a good reason for changing narrators 2/3 of the way through the series, however it is very distracting trying to determine which character is now talking. It’s like listening to a whole new set of people. 5 Star series. 5 Star story. However I can’t give it 5 stars for performance. This narrator did just fine, but lack of continuity in the series brings it down to 2.

Oh gosh… the narration!

I've been listening to this series and have generally enjoyed Every book I have heard so far.. This one actually has some of the best pacing and overall story in the series and was very exciting, especially in the second half. But the narration was absolutely terrible. The key villains, the ones who embody evil on Earth, Sound like Count Chocula and Joey Soprano. The guy reads at like double speed (to the point where a quick succession of coversation exchange sounds like a schizophrenic is having a stroke and you cant tell who is who). He also mispronounces names we have been hearing for the entire series so there is a lot of confusion on who he is talking about (who messes up Zion? Surely you are familiar with the etymology of Mt. Zion, or do you call it Mt. Tseeone?). It also feels like he was using this audio deal as an audition for several cartoon voice acting jobs he was hoping to get (just because you CAN do a voice, doesnt mean you SHOULD, and just stay away from Asian/Jewish accents, you cant pull them off buddy). Long story short, ill be returning the audio version and look forward to reading the paperback again in the future.

Good story, distracting narration

The narration was distracting after listening to the first seven books. The speed of narration was often too quick and nearly every sentence trailed off where the last word was almost a whisper. It was like Humphrey Bogart was telling the story in one of his old Private Eye character roles. The character accents didn't line up with previous books either; in the first couple books it was said Nikolai could speak many languages with hardly any hint of an accent and he sounded like Count Dracula in this narration. Same for Leon, he was a weasel and sounded like it in the previous books but in this one he sounded like John Gotti with a strong NY accent.
