Dien Bien Phu. Saigon. Hanoi. In 1954, they were only exotic names from a French campaign halfway around the world. But now American fighting men - proven on the bloody beaches of Normandy and in the minefields of Korea - are summoned to help beat back the guerilla forces of Ho Chi Minh. To some, the “secret” war in Indochina was the depth of folly. To others, like the majors, it pointed to the heights of glory.

As always, the rich cast of characters and their heroic exploits is breathtaking! Masterfully done. Thoroughly enjoyable!
He reads well, and with style; however, in the whole series he mispronounces things that show that he was never in the military. The most glaring of these is when he is giving the specific times of 1000 hours (he calls it 1 thousand hours - should be 10 hundred) and 2000 hours (he calls it 2 thousand hours - should be 20 hundred). The other is the way he pronounces Fayetteville. Other than that, it is a great performance.
I have really enjoyed this series by W. E. B. Griffin. The character development is great and the narrator, Eric G Dove is very good. This entire series has been like a soap opera for men. I find myself getting attached to some characters and not liking others. There is plenty of military action but there is also some of the day to day stuff that happens in life. The descriptions of the day to day life in the military is very accurate and the details are spot on. The narrator gets most of his terminology right and keeps his characters in their unique style of voice throughout the series. If you're a military history buff or just looking for a good series to start give this one a try.
Next in the series of a pretty well researched book--details the development of Army aviation from the perspective of the characters in the series. I wonder when one of them will get killed off? Next--"The Colonels"
Great characters interwoven with military history of the 20th century.
Interesting insights on the development of armed helicopters and unconventional warfare.
