Publisher's summary

In pre-war Prague, the dreams of two young lovers are shattered when they are separated by the Nazi invasion. Then, decades later, thousands of miles away in New York, there's an inescapable glance of recognition between two strangers. Providence is giving Lenka and Josef one more chance. From the glamorous ease of life in Prague before the Occupation, to the horrors of Nazi Europe, The Lost Wife explores the power of first love, the resilience of the human spirit, and the strength of memory.

Not for the Feint of Heart

I thought this was an excellent book. Lucky for me, I had visited Prague a few years back so I could truly envision the surroundings. My family was from Prague and Budapest. Quite a few never left the camps.

The intonation of the reader adds to the story

I was into the story on page one. The reader was excellent adding to the drama, accents, and descriptions. You are right beside the heroine. I wanted more when I finished the book.

Really enjoyed listening to it

Would you consider the audio edition of The Lost Wife to be better than the print version?

Didn't read the print version

Have you listened to any of George Guidall and Suzanne Toren ’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

George is my favorite and have purchased audio books because of him that I otherwise would not have considered.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

The Lost Wife title would be fine, although it would be hard to make this book into a movie and do justice.

Any additional comments?

Just sit back, close your eyes, listen and try to imagine the times and events of those times. How would you feel?

A romance of english winds a delicately heart-wrenching story

I have never fallen in love with a writer like I have fallen for Alyson Richman. Her writing is magnificent, as it unfolds an incredibly heart wrenching story in the most delicate manner. The themes are purely human. This is the best book I have ever had the honour of reading.

Historical love story

Intriguing love story based on historical fact. Like the switch between male and female narrators. Enjoyed this book very much.

Gripping, Heartwrenching and Wondrous

Where does The Lost Wife rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

Up there in the top ten, both for the story and the performances which brought it to life.

What did you like best about this story?

Such a love story and a very realistic portrayal of how the Holocaust destroyed entire families and the cultures of their home town. The characters' and their survival of Aushwitz were so like some of the members of my husband's family that I wish I'd questioned them more while they were alive. The writing brought depth and beauty to the human spirit that survived atrocities and picked up with life, bringing future generations into the world. This is a beautiful love story and a salute to those who survived. The backdrop of the secret paintings was also very interesting. I recently saw an exhibition of this art at the Holocaust Museum in Washington.

Have you listened to any of George Guidall and Suzanne Toren ’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

I love George Guidall, best known to me for portraying my beloved Mitch Rapp of the Vince Flynn series as well as Gabriel Allon of the Daniel Disilva series. I didn't think I could get thsoe characters out of my mind but that was not problem at all. I was so moved by the depth of emotion that he brought to Josef that this performance will stand forefront in my mind.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

I cried often, both for the beauty of the love between Lenka & Josef and their love for their families as well as their great losses and those of their friends.

Any additional comments?

I'm so grateful this was offered as a Deal of the Day. I never would have found it otherwise and I have since recommended it to many friends.
