In the bitter winter of 2009, following the death of their grandmother, Erica Calcott and her sister Beth return to Storton Manor, a grand and imposing Wiltshire house where they spent their summer holidays as children.
When Erica begins to sort through her grandmother's belongings, she is flooded with memories of her childhood - and of her cousin, Henry, whose disappearance from the manor tore the family apart. Erica sets out to discover what happened to Henry - so that the past can be laid to rest, and her sister, Beth, might finally find some peace.
Gradually, as Erica begins to sift through remnants of the past, a secret family history emerges; one that stretches all the way back to turn-of-the-century Oklahoma, to a beautiful society heiress and a haunting, savage land. As past and present converge, Erica and Beth must come to terms with two terrible acts of betrayal - and the heart-breaking legacy left behind.
The Legacy is an unforgettable, deeply satisfying story that will stay with you long after the last page has been turned.

I am battling every second of this book. Have progressed to part 2 where an inkling of what may have transpired is just coming to light. The narrator occasionally confuses which character she is relating but overall gives a good narration. The author's time changes are a bit difficult to follow. This is not a "casual" listening book. Hoping the ending is more satisfying than part 1.
Northern CA...love classics, romance, historical fiction, fantasy/sci fi, Diana Gabaldin, Jean Auel!
I did not read the print version so I cannot compare print vs. audio.
Nor had I listened to any of Katherine Webb's books before
I enjoyed Clare Wille's narration of this book, her voice is clear and pleasant, she switched smoothly between characters.
The story was a good one, however, I think I would have enjoyed reading each woman's story separately as (ie Book 1 and Book 2 of a series) There was a lot of information to cover in such a short amount of time. I was totally fascinated by Caroline and Corrin's (sp) story and would have liked to hear more detail about them.
I absolutely loved this book. I am a big fan of stories that are written across more than one era, as 'The Legacy' is. The author is very clever as she weaves you into one story from 1903 and just as you are hooked she jumps back to the present day story. At first I was like 'oh no! Get back to 1903' but I would quickly find myself engulfed by the present day story and then I would be whipped back in time again. The stories are linked beautifully and there are two great twists - 1 predictable and the other a complete surprise for me. I cannot praise this writers ability enough, she has a fantastic gift for language and pace. Her ability to describe places is beautiful, I particularly enjoyed the descriptions of the vast, wild, prairie. The narration is spot on too. I have just purchased her second book 'The Unseen' which is just as superb thus far!
The way the timelines came together from the past to the present
What really happened to their cousin
Yes the Unseen. It compared well, very well written and thought through again time differences with the past and the present, always searching for the answer
No I wanted to listen to it over different sittings
I have been very surprised to the stories how real they could be, how people would have acted in the ways katherine describes, I have enjoyed them all, I am now listening to the Half Forgotten Song and again I am really enjoying the twists and turns of the story.
A delightfully woven story linking two generations a century apart, nicely written and it certainly kept my interest.
I could almost understand why the older lady (Catherine) could be so nasty and unpleasant, but couldn't bring myself to excuse her behaviour ..... but then life was so different all those years ago and there were such different values.
I enjoyed the story and the narration, I feel that I will probably revisit this one.
