Publisher's summary

From the author of A Walk to Remember comes a moving tale of redemption and first love when a rebellious teenager decides to spend the summer with her estranged father in a North Carolina beach town.

Seventeen year old Veronica "Ronnie" Miller's life was turned upside-down when her parents divorced and her father moved from New York City to Wilmington, North Carolina. Three years later, she remains angry and alienated from her parents, especially her father...until her mother decides it would be in everyone's best interest if she spent the summer in Wilmington with him. Ronnie's father, a former concert pianist and teacher, is living a quiet life in the beach town, immersed in creating a work of art that will become the centerpiece of a local church.

The tale that unfolds is an unforgettable story of love on many levels - first love, love between parents and children - that demonstrates, as only a Nicholas Sparks novel can, the many ways that love can break our hearts...and heal them.

My Favorite Nicholas Sparks Audio

I've been on a Nicholas Sparks kick lately and I would have to say this one is a better story and listen than even "Dear John." As in Jodi Picoult's "My Sister's Keeper" format, the story is told from a variety of character viewpoints and I really enjoyed the work of the male and female narrators in this audio. The characters come to life and the ending was perhaps a little sappy and predictible, but the kind of happy, satisfying ending I prefer! Can't wait to see the movie.

The story is beautiful

I really enjoyed this book. The story is beautiful! Well written, I had a hard time turning it off. My tween daughter started listening to the story while I was mind way though.. She has sense started at the beginning and is loving the book as much as I did. Every now and then I grab one of her ear buds to see where she is so we can chat about it.. I really like that even listening to it a 2nd time, Im hearing pieces & details I somehow missed the first time.
I did find the female narrator a bit annoying at first. After about 20-30 mins into the book she grew on me and I didn't mind her so much anymore. I also didn't like how the main character was always portrayed to have an attitude ALL the time. It was easy enough to look past, and listen to the story itself and not the way it was read... I get that she was a teen with a teen attitude. just think the narrator pushed it to far (which is on the narrator and not the book/story). I look forward to chatting with my daughter about this great story, and listening to it again.

just ok

I found the young narrator incredibly annoying to listen to, I get that it's supposed to be a young woman but the intonation in her voice was a little over the top. The story was OK but very predictable and a little sappy, although it did make me cry.

My favourite Nicholas Sparks novel!

This one brings me to tears every time, sweet story of family and falling in love. Satisfying ending- if you like tug at your heart strings, sappy love stories; you'll love! Great voice overs too.
