Publisher's summary

From the author of A Walk to Remember comes a moving tale of redemption and first love when a rebellious teenager decides to spend the summer with her estranged father in a North Carolina beach town.

Seventeen year old Veronica "Ronnie" Miller's life was turned upside-down when her parents divorced and her father moved from New York City to Wilmington, North Carolina. Three years later, she remains angry and alienated from her parents, especially her father...until her mother decides it would be in everyone's best interest if she spent the summer in Wilmington with him. Ronnie's father, a former concert pianist and teacher, is living a quiet life in the beach town, immersed in creating a work of art that will become the centerpiece of a local church.

The tale that unfolds is an unforgettable story of love on many levels - first love, love between parents and children - that demonstrates, as only a Nicholas Sparks novel can, the many ways that love can break our hearts...and heal them.

I truly enjoyed this book

It’s true that books are way better than watching the movie! The move left out so much detail that made me love this story.
I’m so glad I bought the Audible app to read the books I’ve wanted to take time to read for years.
I have to Also mention that I loved how the narrator switched from male to female and how they read the story from beginning to end (:

Seriously good cry

It’s about relationships, patience, forgiveness, and facing hard truths. I cried for most of the last 3 hours of the book. If I’d known it was this sad, I might not have bought this book. But it’s a very deep story in some ways, and there’s a lot to think about. Narration is very good, and the story is told well. I think I’ll be glad I listened to it, but later, after I’ve had time to process it. Some of this hit too close to home.

As expected another great story by Sparks. This story grabbed my attention from the start and kept me interested all the way to the end. I would recommend this book to everyone.

The Last Song

I saw the movie before I read the book. Although, I loved the movie, the book was much better because you got the whole story Nicholas Sparks intended. Some of the meaning was lost in the movie translation.

much better than the movie. A summer love story but the tragic death of her father had me in tears more than it did in the movie.

Good book!

If you could sum up The Last Song in three words, what would they be?

thoughtful, realistic, dramatic

What other book might you compare The Last Song to and why?

A Walk to Remember, also by Nicholas Sparks

What about Pepper Binkley’s performance did you like?

She did a great job switching between characters' voices. She really had the main character's voice down in my head---it was believable and I could picture actually being the main character.

The other narrator was great too! At first, I thought his voice was sharp in contrast to Pepper Binkley's but it was a good pairing. I really enjoyed the switch back and forth.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

For the most part. There were some parts that were a bit slow, but I refuse to read abridged versions of books. It's not how the author intended!

Any additional comments?

I definitely recommend this book. I like what I've read and seen in movies by Nicholas Sparks, so I thought I'd give this book a try. Not disappointed!
