Publisher's summary

Jon Bennett is a top Wall Street strategist turned senior White House advisor. But nothing has prepared him for the terror that he will face. Saddam Hussein dispatches his top hit men to assassinate the President of the United States. Iraqi terrorists spread carnage throughout London, Paris, and Riyadh...and the Butcher of Baghdad has a nuclear ace in his hand that he has not yet played.

Only a solid Arab-Israeli coalition against Iraq can keep the U.S. and other Western nations from certain devastation. And only Bennett and his beautiful partner, Erin McCoy, can make that happen. Their secret project - a billion dollar oil deal off the coast of Gaza - could be the basis for an historic peace treaty and enormous wealth for every Israeli and Palestinian.

But just before the treaty can be signed, Israeli commandos foil an Iraqi scud missile launch, recovering a nuclear warhead and evidence that the next attack will level Washington, New York, and Tel Aviv.

Now, the Israeli prime minister gives the American President an ultimatum: melt down Baghdad within one hour...or Israel will do it herself.

From Jerusalem, Bennett and McCoy must summon all of their stealth and savvy to save themselves - and the world - from absolute destruction.

Critic reviews

"Dick Hill performs this thriller with practiced ease, speeding up when the tension should rise and relaxing through the backstory....[D]oomsday predictions and a spectacular ending bring Rosenberg's speculations to a dramatic conclusion." ( AudioFile)

phenomenal reader

I loved how the reader took breaths in-between words in crucial sentences. not really breaths, but subdivided a sentence for emphasis. great story. totally realistic.

Good read!

I enjoyed the Tehran Initiative a lot, so I figured this would be just as enjoyable! And... It was! It is a good Joel Rosenberg book with the typical themes you can expect: Light vs Darkness, good vs evil, action, political thriller, small character development.

Hopefully this work of fiction stays that way.

Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

Possibly. I did feel it dragged somewhat and the female voice done by the narrator was unrealistic. The two women in the story were supposed to be young and beautiful and the attempt at the female voice left something to be desired. He did a better job at it than I could have.

How would you have changed the story to make it more enjoyable?

Leave out some detail about the weapons and other technical stuff. I did not follow the story well since I am ignorant of a lot of the geography and history. Not the books fault.

How could the performance have been better?

The action scenes were good especially at the end. I think the banter between some of the characters was somewhat hokey.

Did The Last Jihad inspire you to do anything?

Pray for the peace of Israel.

Any additional comments?

The book was entertaining but it made me think I should be listening to non-fiction rather than fiction. I listened to Wild Swans and that was great. Next, I am going to get Mao.Wild Swans: Three Daughters of China is a family history that spans a century, recounting the lives of three female generations in China, by Chinese writer Jung Chang.

great series

the first book in a series always starts slow but once it develops all the characters the story itself is awesome! theres 4 more books after this one the third book i believe is the climax of the series. check it out!

Believeable Political Thriller

Great drama. Worth the time and money. Although it is based on what could have happened it is engaging.

A Good Listen In Spite of Being Out Dated

Dick Hill's performance is great. While I think Rosenberg is a good writer, the fact that many events are out of date or ended up with very different results (ie: the Taliban has been decimated in the book, but is still very much alive in real life) takes away from the book for the 2012 listener. On the other hand, it makes me curious about how Rosenberg will deal with those issues later in the series.
