Publisher's summary

Six extraordinary children are trying to lead normal lives in the Rocky Mountain countryside. They live in different homes, with different families, but there is something powerful that connects them. Something that puts them in terrible danger.

The only time they've ever felt safe was when they were together in the waterfront cabin they call the Lake House. And the only people they've ever trusted are Frannie and Kit, the couple who rescued them from unimaginable evil once before.

When that evil resurfaces, the kids reconnect with Frannie and Kit and set off on an astonishing adventure. They flee to the Lake House, but even that haven may no longer be safe.

Dr. Ethan Kane is chief of surgery at Liberty Hospital, one of the most esteemed hospitals in the nation. It is here that terrible secrets lie, secrets that will change the world for all of us.

Fascinating

The sequel to "When the Wind Blows," the thesis is fascinating. The evil doctor seeks to save the world by enhancing select humans. He sees the winged children as a threat...I guess that sets up the tension. And, it engages the reader as two sci-fi themes unfold. This book should be read AS a sequel. BTW, my copy is 13+03 hours and the book started to repeat only certain parts--I believe something went wrong with the download.

Read "When the Wind Blows" first!!

This is a good book, but you really need to read the first book "When the Wind Blows." This book falls right into place when read in sequence. Good story!!

Good sequel

Good book. Kept me interested the whole time. It was a little predictable, though.

Different

Okay, it wasn't one of his top ten. It was a fantasy type book that touched on human feelings. It was creative and more on the lines of a supernatural book. It kept my interest to the end.

It’s repeated?

For some reason, the entity of the book is played twice. I really was looking forward to the extra almost 6 hours of the book but it was just the book again.

Don't be fooled by the poor ratings on this book.

I actually enjoyed this book. But then, I had read it as the sequel to When the Wind Blows as it was intended. In the first book you are gradually introduced to the characters and become endeered to them, especially Max. I can imagine that I would have been very disapointed with this book if I had not read When the Wind Blows first, as The Lake House does start off slowly, and lacks the upfront character development to emerse the reader from the start. I rate this book pretty well because I was already emersed and had loved the first book.

Great SEQUEL

Being a diehard Patterson fan, I have listened to everything he has on audio... I truly enjoyed "When the Wind Blows" (only I thought it was written by Dean Koontz), which is the novel that prefaced "The Lake House" (which I also enjoyed very much). I can see why some people might be disappointed in the change of venue, however, if they had listened to "When the Wind Blows" first I think that they would have been better prepared for the sequel. I am very surprised that there is no reference to the previous novel anywhere or anyway connected with "The Lake House". I think the marketing company could have better utitlized the fact that it was a sequel, so they wouldn't have caught so many fans off-guard.
Bottom line, if you like Dean Koontz novels, you will like "When the Wind Blows" and its sequel "The Lake House", but do yourself a favor and listen to them in the correct sequence. ;-)

Good Book

I wonder if any one in the other reviews realized that it was a second book in a series. If they had then maybe the reviews would not have been so bad. Not as interestinag as "When the wind blows" But still an interesting book, especially if you knew the background by reading the first one. I am kind of glad the end leaves room for a third.
