Ehhh.

This one was alright but nothing to write home about. 2.5 stars in my opinion. Was predictable at the same time your thinking lifetime movie network here this one comes. It had some high points and then it had some low points that I had to fast forward through. Only worth a listen if you have nothing else waiting in your wish list.

Horrible narration almost ruins story

How is it possible that no one in the editing process didn't catch the narrator's pronunciation of words that end in 'd' as a hard 't' sound. If I wasn't a Laymon fan, I would have returned the book. Examples: end = ent stopped = stopt muttered = murrert bed = bet weird = weirt. Who talks like this? Totally unprofessional.

I love Laymon, but skip this one...

Two dimensional characters with unrealistic interactions. Two thirds into the story, new characters are introduced with absolutley no relevance to the story line. Very disappointed.

Not his best buy any means but still good.

It's probably my least favorite Laymon book. Not a real great plot, characters continually put themselves into compromising situations with bad decisions bordering on idiotic. Some good, typical Laymon parts that have you squirming. I would not read this again but I'm glad I did as I'm reading all his books.

This is just bad

I’ve been reading Laymon books since I was 14 (late thirties now) so I know what to expect… but this one is just bad. So bad I’ve stopped multiple times and I’m only on chapter 3.

The narrator isn’t great. The female characters spend too much time daydreaming and fantasizing about all the gruesome violence that COULD happen to them when in reality absolutely nothing has happened.

I probably won’t finish this one.

Twisty Thriller

Story 4.5/5
Narration 4/5

Not your typical Laymon story; no hillbillies, monsters, or boobies. But it was a pretty good thriller that will keep you guessing. Lots of twists and turns.

not the best Laymon book but...

It was a good story though a bit predictable. The one thing that stopped me from giving a solid 5 star review was the narrator. Every male voice she did sounded like the rest. She made them all speak unnaturally slowly and they all came across like Flo's father character in the progressive commercials . Also the narrator can't seem to differentiate between the d sound and the t sound when she finishes a sentence. Had I not been so invested in the story and a huge Laymon fan I would have abandoned the book due to her narration.

Ughh

If you like gratitious violence against women, a completely improbable plot, and absolutely juvenile dialogue, I suppose this is the book for you. Otherwise, save yourself.

OMFG HORRIBLE

Ok, so this was my mistake. I usually always read reviews before purchasing, and I hadn’t read Laymon for 20+ years. Loved him back in the day. Love the genre and gratuitous violence. This is from a female reader. This f’ing book though. Trash from start to finish. The narrator should NEVER EVER be hired ever again. I cannot express this enough. She is terrible. As far as story it’s absolute garbage. Trash. Drivel. WTH was Laymon thinking. OMG so horrible. I won’t lay any spoilers here, but Jebus Christ.
