Publisher's summary

Seattle, 2010. When her entrepreneur husband dies in an accident, Michelle Preston Richardson, 48, finds herself childless and directionless. She yearns for the simpler days of her youth, before she followed her high school sweetheart down a road that led to limitless riches but little fulfillment, and jumps at a chance to reconnect with her past at a class reunion. But when Michelle returns to Unionville, Oregon, and joins three classmates on a spur-of-the-moment tour of an abandoned mansion, she gets more than she asked for. She enters a mysterious room and is thrown back to 1979.

Distraught and destitute, Michelle finds a job as a secretary at Unionville High, where she guides her spirited younger self, Shelly Preston, and childhood friends through their tumultuous senior year. Along the way, she meets widowed teacher Robert Land and finds the love and happiness she had always sought. But that happiness is threatened when history intervenes, and Michelle must act quickly to save those she loves from deadly fates. Filled with humor and heartbreak, The Journey gives new meaning to friendship, courage, and commitment as it follows an unfulfilled soul through her second shot at life.

What did you love best about The Journey?

'The Journey' was, a fantastic audiobook. It was well thought out, engaging, and the characters were realistic. I think the latter is the reason I didn't want to book to end.

I loved this story

I was provided this audiobook through Audiobook Boom at no charge by the author, publisher and/or narrator in exchange for an unbiased review.

As with all of John A Heldt books, there is history in all of these. This one in particular has a time traveler that is my age, so I could really relate to the time and place that she went back to and the history during this period.. I knew where I was during these historical events, which made this book even more special.

When Michelle goes back to 1979/80 and meets her younger self Shelley, (I think I'd be a little more surprised).. but has an opportunity to change some small things.

Caroline Miller did an awesome job narrating this book.. Highly recommend.

The Journey

The Journey
: John A. Heldt

A very interesting time travel novel. The time frame is shorter than a lot of other time travel books, gives this a fresh prespective. I remember the events of 1979- 1980, as I had just gotten married.

The interactions between the older and younger protaginst were interesting. I liked the possibilities of changing history by slight changes in the past.

Second chances, romance and suspense all rolled into a neat package. I'd like more novels like this.

The narration was well done. The characters were well portrayed. Caroline Miller added emotion and life to this story.

It was ok

I did not like the story at times. The writing was not something that I get into, I had a hard time with the lead character she seamed to do things that made no sense to me. The narrator was great ,nice job. I did receive this book for free for my honest and unbiased opinion.

Another Chance Time Travel

What did you love best about The Journey?

I liked the concept the author took with this time travel. Two separate journeys of yourself, as an adult and a youth. Both having lasting effects on the other.

Any additional comments?

I enjoyed Caroline Miller's narration. Even though many of the voices were the same, it didn't detract from the overall listening experience. I've added a new author to my favorites list.

Excellenet Time Travel with a Twist Story

The Journey: Northwest Passage, Book 2 was an excellent audiobook. I have never read or listened to the first in the series but it did not impact my enjoying this story at all. The story starts in 2010 when Michelle, newly widowed goes back home to her 30th High School reunion on Friday the 13th. She married Her high school boyfriend, he becomes a rich driven man who recently died in a climbing accident. While going around a local old house with friends from the reunion sharing memories. She enters a room and is transported 31 years into the past to the fall of her senior year of High School. After the shock has worn off she realizes the opportunity she has to make positive changes in peoples lives. I really loved this audiobook. I highly recommend it. It was just really entertaining and enjoyable.

The narration was done by Caroline Miller and she does an awesome job. I look forward to hearing more of her performances.

Not the average time travel book

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Yes, I would. I usually enjoy time travel books and this was definitely a good one. It was also a nice change from what I am used to. It was well written and the narration was good as well.

What did you like best about this story?

I liked the idea of encouraging everyone to make better choices to ensure they would have a happier future. Even though she was in everyone's business all the time she was always helpful and kind. She didn't push but rather made them think about what they really wanted by being supportive and taking time to talk.

Have you listened to any of Caroline Miller’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

I thought she did a fine job with the narration.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

Michelle's death. I was not expecting it when it happened. Hearing about all the lives she touched and even making a positive difference in the life of someone who didn't even like her was touching.

Unusual Time Traveling Story.

Where does The Journey rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

The Journey is a good book. It has an interesting plot with a new twist on time travel. It is told at an even, tranquil pace. It is a clean, family friendly book. No violence, sex, or inappropriate scenes.

What was one of the most memorable moments of The Journey?

There are several memorable scenes in this story. The scene where Michelle first leaves the Franklin house and realizes that she has gone back in time leads to many memorable scenes. It is memorable when Michelle tells Michael Land to do whatever it takes to get his friend to come home in order to avoid the Iraq hostage situation. Michelle taking on a drunken student and forcing him to get out of his car in order to save his life is memorable. The ending of the story is unexpected. It is oddly satisfying and well done.

Have you listened to any of Caroline Miller’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

No, this is a new narrator for me. She did a great job.

If you could rename The Journey, what would you call it?

Take Two--A Chance to Tell Your Younger Self How Best to Live Your Life.
