Publisher's summary

A war-weary Navy pilot confronts the deadly skies of the South Pacific, training Marine pilots and battling Soviets MiGs in the wake of the Vietnam War. Fighter pilot Jake Grafton is adrift following combat in Vietnam. With no place in the States to call home, Grafton sticks to what he knows best: taking on the world’s most treacherous skies from the cockpit of a Grumman A-6 Intruder. Now, stationed in the South Pacific on the U.S.S. Columbia, Grafton must teach the Marines aboard the art of flying from an aircraft carrier - a mission that, thanks to the unruly Marine Captain Le Beau, is as joyless as it is dangerous.

But when an unexpected enemy appears from above, Grafton and Le Beau must put aside their differences and work together to save the lives of all onboard.

Another great story from Stephen Coonts

The Jake Grafton series of books are some of the very best, Stephen Coonts always seems to make even the most cynical realize that their are those men and women in the military that are there because they hope to make a difference.

A decent follow on to Flight of the Intruder

Decent story with some good new characters along with some previous ones. Being a Marine, I especially like Jake's new assignment. :-)

Read if you are interested how Naval Aviation works.

A very good education on what goes in to being a Naval Aviator on deployment.
It is also a must read to understand the Warrior that is Jake Grafton as he progress in his Career. I truly loved the small asides on what it takes to be a true professional warrior in a peace time Navy run by Bureaucrats.
Benjamin L. Darcie does a GREAT job in the Narration he captures the moods perfectly!
My only complaint is as with others is the third act, I would have much rather had the story move to Australia and back home. This is because I enjoyed the story of his inner struggle and daily life, and challenges of Carrier Aviation a lot more than fighting Pirates.

From Navy Vet

I am not an Airdale, but this book took me home. Loved it. I have not missed the Navy in a long time and this made me want to be a young man, hitting ports and steaming holes in the ocean.

lives up to the excitement of the first Novel

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Yea I think I would, I would recommend this audiobook to anybody who has listened to 'flight of the intruders' by Coonts. It picks up the story well and is just as exciting as the first book

What was one of the most memorable moments of The Intruders?

Plenty of high flying action, with some extra too. The adventures of Jake and his new BM - Flap, will have you listening non stop for hours

What does Benjamin L. Darcie bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

He brings life to the book. His narration of the books really brings out the excitement.

Who was the most memorable character of The Intruders and why?

Flap, you never quite know how to take him, but you get the sense that he is a good man and an excellent military man. His past is never fully explained but you know enough to know he is formidable

Any additional comments?

If you enjoyed "Flight of the Intruders" you will definitely enjoy this one!
