Publisher's summary

The largest known meteorite has been discovered, entombed in the earth for millions of years on a frigid, desolate island off the southern tip of Chile. At 4,000 tons, this treasure seems impossible to move.

New York billionaire Palmer Lloyd is determined to have this incredible find for his new museum. Stocking a cargo ship with the finest scientists and engineers, he builds a flawless expedition. But from the first approach to the meteorite, people begin to die. A frightening truth is about to unfold: The men and women of the Rolvaag are not taking this ancient, enigmatic object anywhere. It is taking them.

PREDICTABLE.

Way too predictable. Put it down again and again. Some very exciting scenarios, albeit predictable. Well read.

Good Listen & cries for a sequel!

Preston & Child are favorites of mine to begin with but they have scored big time with this one. Preston and Child are good separately but are fantastic together. Interesting and exciting from beginning to end but the story starts out a little slow. . This is a story about an ego-centric billionaire industrialist's ill-fated expedition to bring back the largest meteor ever discovered, complete with set-backs and danger at every turn. The meteor is more than anyone has expected and things start to happen.
This is probably Scott Brick's best performance to date. He is unparalleled as a narrator!. He did an excellent job and made the story that much better. I will look for more books done by him. ENJOY!

good story, rather slow moving

Overall I enjoyed the story, I wanted to finish it and I did, however, it was pretty slow moving, especially the first half, which ended up being kind of a blur and I dont remember much detail. Would I listen to it again, no, but do I regret listening to it, not at all. I enjoyed the performance by Brick.

Enjoyable, narrator a bit over the top

I really liked this book. Two little minuses that made me rate it at 4 in stead of five stars:

1 The narrator read the whole book with an almost trembling voice, which in my view was only fitting at the end of the book.

2 What research? Dodo's lived on Mauritius in the Indian Ocean, not on the Galapagos Islands in the Pacific. Proudly killed by my ancestors. In the age of Google and Wikipedia these kind of
mistakes are silly.

For the rest: great story, no presidents or terrorists in sight ( I don't like the President's best
friend saves the world from evil terrorist novels), once accustomed to the drama great narrator.

Kinda like a script for a movie like Armageddon, sans Ben

A fun listen indeed. However, caveat emptor! The Ice Limit’s target demographic is 16-25 yr old males, and a naive general public, e.g. those folks who can’t wait to watch a movie like Armageddon or Batman vs Superman the same day it’s released.

So, you’ll probably enjoy this book if: 1. You’re cool with completely suspending disbelief; 2. You’re able to stomach some crappy ‘love interest’ filler, which adds absolutely nothing whatsoever to the story (and it’s so f’ing cliché!!); 3. It doesn’t bother you when the laws of physics and scientific facts are both egregiously ignored and entirely inaccurate; 4. And you have an acquired taste for Scott Brick’s dramatically affected and overtly ostentatious narration, including his abhorrent ability to speak with an “accent”, especially Irish (wtf!!??).
Enjoy!!

Should have had a different narrator

This was a pretty good book. I enjoyed the story. It was obviously well researched. My only complaint is the narration. Scott Brick read with a dry monotone that became annoying after the first few "pages". He made it sometimes puzzling as to what mood or emotion was being expressed by a character. It is a shame, as a more expressive narrator would have made this a much more enjoyable book. I love audio books, but the narration can change the entire mood of the story. However, I'd still recommend the book on its own merits.

Entertaining

I didn't mind this book. The narration was okay and the content kept me interested until the the end. I would consider this book falling suit with some of Crichton's works and James Rollins' non-series books (although not as good - to me - as their works). I admit he took a VERY long time to actually build up to the action. And then, in the end, just when it's getting interesting, he concludes the book with some confusing "news clippings". He should've condensed the beginning and really developed, in story form, the ending instead of using news clippings. He left it wide open for a sequel but after reviewing his works I didn't see one anywhere. It was a decent book but the ending left me disappointed.

Great out of the Box story

I know this story has some bad reviews, I just didn't see it.
The authors told a very smooth story that does not follow a typical recipe; I felt they did a great job coming up with new story line.
I didn't see this as a dull story about a meteorite, I saw it as an epic engineering story, testing man, machine, and politics.
The characters were well developed and interesting.
I would recommend you give it a chance it may surprise you.

Does it again.

I relatively dull improbable story made listenable by Scott Brick's performance. Well done, again. Thankyou
