"The Ice cream Girls is a wonderful engaging story!"
What did you love best about The Ice Cream Girls?

The characters are well rounded and this story is hard to turn off. A frightening account of how teenagers are so easily drawn into a destructive relationship with their teacher who is twice their age and a sadistic psychopath. The narrators brought it to life.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Both girls were my favourites as they were compelling in the unfolding of the story.

What about the narrators’s performance did you like?

Their voices and the clarity and emotion they brought to their parts.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

No, but I felt chilled as I come from Brighton.

    Any additional comments?

A great surprise story! So glad I came across it.

    "irritating character voice"
If you could sum up The Ice Cream Girls in three words, what would they be?

    exciting. mystery.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

    no

    Any additional comments?

I found the voices that the character for Serena did as the male parts, to be incredibly jarring and irritating. Her character was lovely and very easy to listen to but when she played the 2 male voices it was awful

    Story
    "Interesting read!"
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

I would definately recommend this book. The story is cripping and the depictions of the two girls/women were extremely well done. Solving the crime itself is not necessarily the center of this book but rather its reasons and consequences. Also the performance was great, I was really sucked into the story because of it.

What was one of the most memorable moments of The Ice Cream Girls?

The discussions in the cafe between the two women and the desperation of both of them in the web of misunderstandings and fear.

What does the narrators bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you had only read the book?

It really helped me to follow the story and not confuse the two characters as would normally easily happen to me. It enabled for me to enjoy the story more (English is not my mother tongue).

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

The events in hospital after Serena's accident.

    Any additional comments?

Great book, I'm happy to have chosen it.

    Story
    "Another Cracking Dorothy Koomson Listen"

I love Dorothy Koomson, but this is her best yet. The characters are just so believable and REAL. The story weaves back and forth in time, but it is done so well that the listener never loses track - I always knew at what point we were in each of those people's lives all the time.

Because the characters are so honest, even if they are not doing the right thing, I had an emotional connection to them and was willing them to come through in the end.

I understand that The Ice Cream Girls has recently been on TV, so many of you may know the final twist. I was in the middle of listening when I found this out so I made my friends who had seen it keep schtum!

    It was worth the wait.

One last comment: The narrators are absolutely excellent. If you've listened to Dorothy Koomson before, you will be familiar with Adjoa Andoh, an exceptionally good narrator. Her skills are complimented beautifully by Julie Maisey and Sean Barrett. They bring all the characters to life in a lovely, recognisably clear way so you always know who you are listening to.

    Enjoy!

    Story
    "Absolutely unputdownable"

I devoured this in three days, resenting anything I was doing that wasn't listening to it. The dog had a lot of three hour walks! It's absolutely gripping, keeps the mystery going until literally the last minutes and is full of 'what would I do' situations. Subtle, clever and very well- written and performed.
    Enjoy!

    Story
    "Slow, nail-biting novel…."

This is a chilling story about two girls entangled in a terrible abuse situation…a subject that we hear about too often in the news these days. I enjoyed this listen very much, in the way it kept me desperately wanting to get to the end to find out what actually happened! But unfortunately, when I finally got there, the end was not what I wished it to be…it was rather a little bit of an anti-climax really. But still, wonderfully written, and wonderfully narrated.

    Story
    "Interesting Read"
What made the experience of listening to The Ice Cream Girls the most enjoyable?

I like the fact that three narrators were used for this book which helped to separate the characters.

What was one of the most memorable moments of The Ice Cream Girls?

It was an interesting story about a controlling inappropriate relationship.

Did you have an emotional reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

The author managed to allow the listener to feel empathy for both characters and to somewhat answer the obvious questions as to why these girls would stay with such a pers.

    "Gripping from start to finish"
Would you listen to The Ice Cream Girls again? Why?

It's a once only kind of book - once you know the end it's a done deal

Who was your favorite character and why?

Poppy, she had coped incredibly well with her terrible prison sentence and continuing loss of her friends and family - I wanted to hug her!

Have you listened to any of the narrators’s other performances? How does this one compare?

    No

Did you have an emotional reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

Not much to laugh about it was too serious and tragic for that, it made me sad to see yet again how women can be subjected to these terrible events.

    Any additional comments?

I just can't wait to see the dramatisation now!

    Story
    "Very depressing and unrewarding"

I found this book very depressing, and I guessed the culprit very early on. There were two female narrators, but their voices sounded the same to me. It was also very repetitive. I'm sorry I bothered with it.

Would you consider the audio edition of The Ice Cream Girls to be better than the print version?

Could hardly bear to put it down and found myself listening to it quite late. Unfortunately had the final twist figured out half way through but did not take away from the story.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

I really did want to but just not practical
