Publisher's summary

"My darling Cecilia, if you’re reading this, then I’ve died...."

Imagine that your husband wrote you a letter, to be opened after his death. Imagine, too, that the letter contains his deepest, darkest secret - something with the potential to destroy not just the life you built together, but the lives of others as well. Imagine, then, that you stumble across that letter while your husband is still very much alive....

Cecilia Fitzpatrick has achieved it all - she's an incredibly successful businesswoman, a pillar of her small community, and a devoted wife and mother. Her life is as orderly and spotless as her home. But that letter is about to change everything, and not just for her: Rachel and Tess barely know Cecilia - or each other - but they too are about to feel the earth-shattering repercussions of her husband’s secret.

Acclaimed author Liane Moriarty has written a gripping, thought-provoking novel about how well it is really possible to know our spouses - and, ultimately, ourselves.

Hook, line, and sinker....

I couldn't get enough of this story and every time I had to stop listening, all I could think about is when I would get to start listening again. Juggling the multiple storylines, in the beginning, was a little rough, but as the book went on, it all came together and made sense. The ending of the book was perfect, but oh how I would love to hear more about everyone in the future after the story ended.

Quite Boring

This audible book was quite boring; really. Although, the character descriptions were very detailed. This book seemed to drag on and on. I am 4 hours into this book and I cannot bring myself to listen to anymore. There is no real excitement. It is kind of like listening to Ben Stein (the Clear Eyes guy) read to you (only exception being the slight deepening or slowing down of the narrator voice here and there).
I am even too bored with this book to write more.

Great story! A Bit predictable at the end

I truly enjoyed this book! The reader did a good job with the characters! A bit predictable towards the end but the epilogue gave good satisfying end!

Such a thrilling and amazing book!

I seriously was hooked instantly. The author mentioned pretty much all of the things I'm interested in, tactfully and in a hilarious way. I was desperate to hear this book all day every day.

A smart, honest look at love in many forms

I became interested in Liane Moriarty's novels after seeing Big Little Lies miniseries on HBO, based on another one of her books. What I loved about this novel was how it has a suspenseful plot that keeps you guessing and sitting in the car outside your house just to listen to a little more before shutting off your car (should you be listening on your commute home). But it's much deeper than just a good plot ... through the stories of three women, the story explores questions of marriage, sex, redemption, monogamy, middle age, friendship and forgiveness. What sins would you forgive your spouse? The characters are fully developed and complex, and the writing is smart. I felt like Moriarty really understands what it's like to be a woman in a seemingly fine marriage. I really loved the narrator ... I was worried the Australian accent might demand more listening effort on my part, but it wasn't an issue at all. I thought she did a convincing and accurate job at portraying the different characters' personalities.

wow

This story hooked me from the first page. Well developed characters, unexpected plot twists, and themes like the whimsy of fate made for a rich experience along with the reader's wonderful performance. My only criticism is I could have done without the epilogue.

Great narrator, fabulous story

What about Caroline Lee’s performance did you like?

I have only read two printed books since I joined Audible a few years ago. I love listening to books so much more as I can now read anywhere, anytime. What makes or breaks a story for me can be the narrator and I love Caroline Lee as a narrator. She sounds like she wrote the story herself as she seems to pick up on all the nuances of the characters. Fabulous read.
