Publisher's summary

Only one man could set her heart ablaze....

Lady Averill Mortagne learned to control her fierce temper as a young girl. But if her father insists on parading her before one more English lord who looks askance at her flame-colored hair, she'll simply scream! Her only respite is the time she spends with Kade Stewart, the wounded Scot her brother brought home from the Crusades. Who could have imagined a Highland warrior would be the only gentleman around?

Lady Averill helped save his life, and for that Kade is truly grateful. She is also almost unbearably beautiful, but he could never subject such a sweet and gentle lady to the rough life of a Stewart laird's bride... or could he? When she braves an unexpected danger by his side, Averill will prove to Kade that her heart is as fiery as her hair ...and that submitting to their scorching passion would be heaven indeed.

A FANTASTIC TALE WELL NARRATED

An interesting story with believable characters and well narrated. I finished it in 1 sitting, I would call it "A PAGE TURNER".

Unexpected Pleasure

For the genre, this was very good. No, it isn't classic literature, but no one expects that of an historical romance. However, what really hooked me with these books was the narrator. Palka has such a melodic voice and pleasant accent - I literally use these books to fall asleep when I have insomnia.

Now, not that the stories are boring, far from it. The first time through, I had a difficult time turning them off. If you are a fan of Hannah Howell, you will love these three books. They are very typical, formulaic Highland romances, nothing terribly original, but again, if you are wanting a mind-numbing, heart-warming, gently erotic sip of passionate escape, that is exactly what you will get from this series.

Interesting Story, endearing characters

What did you love best about The Hellion and the Highlander?

Though poorly titled, the story is about interesting and even endearing characters that amuse and also come alive under a narrative style that proves surprisingly good. It's true that the narrator seems rather quiet and almost (but not quite) monotone at first, but I liked that she did not intrude her personality as narrator, allowing each character to come alive in a myriad of voices. Some narrators cause their own energy to leak into the characters, but this one is a quiet backdrop for her characters to come alive against.

What was one of the most memorable moments of The Hellion and the Highlander?

When Averil goes to find Cade before the marriage to explain all her "faults" to him since she believes he can't see her due to his head injury.

What does Marianna Palka bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Wonderful voicing of each character, with a particularly sexy and scottish voice for Cade, the main male character.

If you could take any character from The Hellion and the Highlander out to dinner, who would it be and why?

Cade and Averill together.

Any additional comments?

One of the very few Highlander romances where I listened to scenes more than one time. The genre is so repetitive that once you've heard it once, it loses interest. But the relationships in this story are extremely endearing, especially the way Cade "handles" Averill.

Another great one by Lynsay Sands

I loved this one. It had twists and turns that you never saw coming. There was just enough romance and intrigue. If you have any of the other Highlander books you must get this one too!!

My favourite of the 3 books

What did you love best about The Hellion and the Highlander?

I loved the repartee between Averil and Kade.
Averil thinks she is unattractive, and plain.
Kade thinks she is stunning, smart and funny (which she is).

What other book might you compare The Hellion and the Highlander to and why?

Similar to The Bride by Julie Garwood

Which scene was your favorite?

The best scene is, while drunk and cursing, she begins to tell Kade (and her brother) about throwing up on her would-be mother-in-law. Laugh out loud funny.

Who was the most memorable character of The Hellion and the Highlander and why?

Averil

Cat licks and milking the cow

Once again, such a beautiful love story, many lessons learned from riding the horse into the stable and numbing the most beautiful piffle in all of England.. I laughed so hard and loud. Then when her and Cade went to see Collin and Eddlin and the two girls started talking and laughing about it, I laughed all over again Such a good book!
