Julie Barenson's young husband left her two unexpected gifts before he died - a puppy named Singer and the promise that he would always be watching over her. Now, four years later, 29-year-old Julie is far too young to have given up on love. She may be ready to risk caring for someone again. But who?
Should it be Richard Franklin, the sophisticated, handsome engineer who treats her like a queen? Or Mike Harris, the down-to-earth nice guy who was her husband's best friend? Choosing one of them should bring her more happiness than she's had in years. Instead, Julie is soon fighting for her life in a nightmare spawned by chilling deception and jealousy so poisonous that it has become a murderous desire....

"Sparks fans clamor for his brand of love story, and with the added punch of suspense, this one will be another best seller." (Publishers Weekly)
When I had listende for about 30 minutes, I though I knew how the story would go. But then it took a turn, and was suttenly more then a sweet love story. I really enjoyed it.
Great typical Sparks novel. I couldn't help but feel superior to the character Julie. I kept yelling at her thinking she's go to have some more sense. It was a good book, sad as always.
I've listened to almost every one of his books. Most I've loved but I did not like this story. Too much violence and not what I all enjoyable entertainment. This was Sparks 7th book. I think he must have found his niche later on. The narrator was very good.
The main character, Julie, was supposed to be a survivor, but in moments of crises, she was hysterical and did not use her brains.

greater depth of each character
No, the central characters aren't that likable, except the policewoman and Singer.
I didn't read the book, just the audible version.
Whe her Guardian rescued her.........it was an amazing surprise and so beautiful.
When Singer attacked
Yes! Very difficult to put down.
I discovered this book wasn't unabridged when a friend left her copy at my house. I picked up her book and started to read it again. The prologue is not included with the audio book. I'm not sure why.
Although I truely enjoyed this audio book, I found that there were noises in the background towards the end of the book. It sounded like other people talking, or maybe a television playing. I listened to it with my earphones and my house was silent, so maybe I was a little more perceptive at that time. Otherwise, great story and heart warming characters.
