Set in pre-Revolutionary China, The Good Earth is the poignant story of Wang Lung, a rice farmer whose industry and commitment to the land enable him and his family to prosper. But unexpected drought forces the family south in search of food, and there they suffer the spiritual impoverishment of life in the city. Wang Lung’s courageous journey back to his farm is a spiritual affirmation of the values of the land.

Story is one you have heard before but the writing & charater development are great. I learned a tiny bit about Chinese history & culture while being entertained all the while. if you have friends or clients who are chinese, mention the book, I'd bet they will be interested in discussing it.
Definity a very good read & will keep you engaged.
George Guidall is my favorite narrator of all times. The Good Earth by Pearl S. Buck is an education on humanity and how we all are tied to and dependent upon the Earth, from where we draw sustenance and meaning for life.
