50th ANNIVERSARY EDITION - WITH A NEW INTRODUCTION BY FRANCIS FORD COPPOLA

Mario Puzo's classic saga of an American crime family that became a global phenomenon - nominated as one of America's best-loved novels by PBS's The Great American Read.

With its brilliant and brutal portrayal of the Corleone family, The Godfather burned its way into our national consciousness. This unforgettable saga of crime and corruption, passion and loyalty continues to stand the test of time, as the definitive novel of the Mafia underworld.

A #1 New York Times bestseller in 1969, Mario Puzo's epic was turned into the incomparable film of the same name, directed by Francis Ford Coppola, which won the Academy Award for Best Picture. It is the original classic that has been often imitated, but never matched. A tale of family and society, law and order, obedience and rebellion, it reveals the dark passions of human nature played out against a backdrop of the American dream.

As near perfect as a book can be.

The pacing, the plot, the characters, it was just riveting. And the nuanced performance aided it tremendously.
I Highly recommend it.

Love it!!!

Would you consider the audio edition of The Godfather to be better than the print version?

No, it is not better or worse than the print version. It is different. A great narration with Joe Mantenga and it helps to set you in the place since we know he was in the movie.

Joe Montagna

Joe M as the narrator is phenomenal! One of the few books I’ve listened to at a speed of 1.0.

DO NOT EXPECT THE MOVIE!

This is more of a cheesy romance than a mafia story. Lot's of sex. Quite a bit more sex than I ever anticipated all told from a strange PG-13 perspective. The kind of writing you'd expect from novels with guys standing shirtless on the cover.

More than a couple story telling mistakes, including completely removable characters having side plots that high jack the story for a bit. and at one point having every conflict resolved for a while, but the story keeps rolling on, seemingly with no reason all surrounding a character that has no point in existing in the tale.

Voice actor did a fine job with the material he had. That's the only high point. I'd stay away from this one.

The movie plays in your ear

The narrative of a secret society is like peeling back the curtains of mystery. I saw th movie twice 50 years ago yet every scene played out in my head as I listened.
