50th ANNIVERSARY EDITION - WITH A NEW INTRODUCTION BY FRANCIS FORD COPPOLA

Mario Puzo's classic saga of an American crime family that became a global phenomenon - nominated as one of America's best-loved novels by PBS's The Great American Read.

With its brilliant and brutal portrayal of the Corleone family, The Godfather burned its way into our national consciousness. This unforgettable saga of crime and corruption, passion and loyalty continues to stand the test of time, as the definitive novel of the Mafia underworld.

A #1 New York Times bestseller in 1969, Mario Puzo's epic was turned into the incomparable film of the same name, directed by Francis Ford Coppola, which won the Academy Award for Best Picture. It is the original classic that has been often imitated, but never matched. A tale of family and society, law and order, obedience and rebellion, it reveals the dark passions of human nature played out against a backdrop of the American dream.

Definetely a classic

What did you love best about The Godfather?

It's a good story. It's a classic.

Have you listened to any of Joe Mantegna’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

No

Any additional comments?

A bit vulgar, but it is the Godfather, so you have to expect that. Not as bad as the movie though.

Excellent, just excellent

A most classic story by Mario Puzo told by Joe Mantenga that is absolutely a perfect match. I do not believe anyone could perform this better. It is an incredible story told wonderfully.

Well worth inclusion in anyone's library

What if Michael did succeed in legitimacy?

Couldn't stop listening. It's very interesting to hear how the movie is a bit different from the book. Great Story.

I didn’t think I would like it, but I did

I’m a 57-year-old female and a former film major and I must embarrassedly admit that I never saw the Godfather until this year. The only reason I got motivated to do so was because I saw the television series about the making of the movie the Godfather. That series drew me in, as it is about the process of filmmaking, and then once I had seen it, I got all motivated to see the movie. Once I finish seeing the movie, I decided I needed to read the book. For those who don’t already know this, the book is basically the godfather and godfather two combined. The producer of the original Godfather decided there was too much material in the book and opted to break it into a movie and a sequel. I have an hour read the book, understand why it was such a huge bestseller when it first came out. It really is a book about family and less so about violence.

Timeless

I love this book & it's my all time favorite movie. After watching The Offer I was inspired to re-read the book. So happy I chose audio. The extras from Anthony Puzo & Francis Ford Coppola were great. Having Joe Mantegna narrate the book made it extremely enjoyable. Highly recommend!!!!!

Took me 46 years, but. . . I am in LOVE!

I have never seen the Godfather movies. I waited because I wanted to read the book first. I am 46 years old and just finished. Joe Mantegna’s narration is absolutely fantastic! Even though I already knew about the major key parts (i.e. the severed head in bed), because those parts have been talked about and spoofed for decades, the attention to detail and story telling by Mr. Puzo is brilliant. I am sure I will be reading and rewatching this whole collection!
