50th ANNIVERSARY EDITION - WITH A NEW INTRODUCTION BY FRANCIS FORD COPPOLA

Mario Puzo's classic saga of an American crime family that became a global phenomenon - nominated as one of America's best-loved novels by PBS's The Great American Read.

With its brilliant and brutal portrayal of the Corleone family, The Godfather burned its way into our national consciousness. This unforgettable saga of crime and corruption, passion and loyalty continues to stand the test of time, as the definitive novel of the Mafia underworld.

A #1 New York Times bestseller in 1969, Mario Puzo's epic was turned into the incomparable film of the same name, directed by Francis Ford Coppola, which won the Academy Award for Best Picture. It is the original classic that has been often imitated, but never matched. A tale of family and society, law and order, obedience and rebellion, it reveals the dark passions of human nature played out against a backdrop of the American dream.

Superb story superbly done by Angelo Di Loreto

I could not put this down. What a performance. What an engrossing experience. I saw the movie and now understand all the nuances. Mario carefully weaved life into a story as as a diamond cuter perfects his diamond.

I couldn't get enough

I have never watched any of the God Father movies but decided to listen to them via audio book. Couldn't be more please with the author or the narrator. I encourage people to get this book and enjoy.

An amazing classic

I loved the films but I never believed that the book is even much greater. Joe Mantegna certainly contributes to why this audiobook is so amazing.
I think I learned a lot from the book on how to be a respectful person.

READ THIS BOOK.

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Absolutely.

Any additional comments?

Like me, you may be thinking: "I have the movie memorized, should I really check out the source material?" And the answer is: "ABSO-FREAKING-LUTELY." There is not much I can say that hasn't been said:

- Incredible performance
- An absolute MUST for fans of the film (the book clarifies some plot holes that always bothered me)

Get it.

One of my favorites

This is easily one of my favorites, way better than the movie. The narrator does a fantastic job.

Excellent performance by Joe Mantegna

Narrator does great voices and impressions - His interpretation of Mamma Corleone had me in stitches.
This is a great book, with a surprisingly rich plot. I haven't yet seen the movies, but am excited to now.

Needs More Character Voice Actors

What made the experience of listening to The Godfather the most enjoyable?

I have never read a fiction book on the mafia, so this was my first and it has been a great experience. The writing is brilliant and the narrator does a good job of reading it. However, on Audible there is also one with multiple actors. I would suggest that one since there are so many different characters in this book. But, without a doubt this was an awesome book and the narrator did a great job at portraying all the characters but one person can only do so much. Hope this helps!

What other book might you compare The Godfather to and why?

I have never read a book on the mafia, so I am not a person to answer this question.

What does Joe Mantegna bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

He does a great job, but there are so many characters in this book. Another Audible version has numerous actors I would recommend that just for the clarity of who is speaking.

Who was the most memorable character of The Godfather and why?

Michael Corleone

Even better than the movie, great narration

excellent narration by Joe Montegna and overall fantastic book. Always loved the movies and this goes into far more detail. Shocked me though, how faithful the movie was to the book. Definitely recommend.

Great

What made the experience of listening to The Godfather the most enjoyable?

As this is my first read/listen to The Godfather I was surprised by how much more detail, material and additional story lines there are in the book than in the movie.

What about Joe Mantegna’s performance did you like?

He does "voices" without doing "voices". His performance is not hammy, or over the top.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

Great story and great narration by Mantegna
