One of the best books I've read
The story is much more fully developed than the movie. I always prefer to read books before I see the movies and always like the books better. I think a more skilled narrator would have really made the book come alive however the narrator was adequate. A must read.

Behind every great fortune is a crime.
I am glad I watched the movies before I read this book. Although the movies were well made and acted they did not capture the fondness a family has for the members over against the cruelty at taking actions. The awful treachery of members of the extended family in betrayal out of greed. This perhaps could not have come accross on the screen with as much force as it had in the book.

What a classic masterpiece!
Raw, uncut, untethered emotion. All captured in a breathtakingly emotional story that drives every emotion in the reader. From intense love to untamed fury and unquestionable loyalty. Values that only exist in works of literature today.

The characters come to life in a believable way. By now much of this story is common myth; part of the consciousness of every American. They are family.

Amazing story & performance
There's really no explaining how impressive this story is. The movie was great, but it doesn't even compare to the novel. Nothing about it feels fictional. Joe Mantegna does a perfect job reading this, I can't imagine anyone else bringing this story to life half as well. Many of these audio book narrators are great, some aren't, but Joe is absolutely the best of them.
If you have a hard time enjoying stories with violent scenes, you may have a hard time with a few parts of this novel. But honestly the story is so compelling that even the people who dislike violence might find themselves feeling satisfied after the most graphic parts because the characters really deserve what they get. The Godfather has so many amazing elements to it that almost everyone who appreciates a great story will find something to love.

Puzo’s Masterpiece
Just as good as the movie, albeit with even more details. Characters and plot lines are very rich. Mantegna does an excellent job as narrator. The full cast version is just as professionally done. Listen to the samples to see which one you prefer.
