Publisher's summary

History buffs will rejoice at Jeff Shaara's latest foray into the glorious days of America's founding. This dramatic sequel to his best selling Rise to Rebellion continues his chronicle of the key characters of the American Revolution and animates some of the most compelling scenes in America's history: Washington's harrowing winter at Valley Forge, Benedict Arnold's tragic downfall, and the fiercely-fought battles at Trenton, Brandywine Creek, and Yorktown. Shaara draws his readers into the ethical and strategic dilemmas of his characters. More than simple events, the dates and battles are fleshed out in our imaginations as momentary choices that could easily have turned out differently even with the same actors. Shaara's sequel shows how the philosophical ideas of the Founding Fathers outgrew the library in the theater of war.

Good Story

I was eager to listen to this book but was disappointed at the narration. It seemed flat compared to the narration of the first book in the series. After a few chapters, I got use to it and really enjoyed the book. One issue. There were at least a dozen instances where the same sentence was repeated.

Essential

This is the story that schools won't take the time to tell...IF the teachers even knew it. Many blanks are filled in with much detail, but it's never tedious. Well worth the time spent.

Outstanding

Absolutely outstanding. Not a dull moment. Highly recommended and the narrator is very good. Gave me a very strong appreciation for George Washington and other American patriots who literally risked everything, including their lives, for the Glorious Cause. I had forgotten how much in doubt the outcome of the Revolutionary War was until the French became our allies. Great history lesson.

Revealing

If you have any interest about the history of our country than this is a must listen. It explains the war in such a way as to draw you into each and every battle and experience what the leaders as wells as the foot soldiers must have felt.

Enjoyable and Informative

History is something that has only recently caught my attention. After listening to 1776, I wanted to know more about the whole American Revolution. This book provided some great insight into the politics and characters of the time. I will say that it was nice having listened to 1776 first, which is more of a book that covers historical facts. This allowed me to get a feel for differentiating between the fact and fiction in "The Glorious Cause". But even if you are new to history or the American Revolution in particular, this is a great book to cover a lot of ground in an enjoyable way.

Five star story - one star technical

The book and story and the performance are all five star as others have said and I can't really add to their reviews. I only rate performance as four stars in protest to the terrible technical issues with the audible version. I lost track of how many times the same sentence would be repeated. Once I would have ignored, but easily over a dozen times. Very disconcerting.

Fun and enlightening

Great character development; puts you in their minds to see events as they saw them at the time. Sure, it is fiction but it doesn't feel like it. Well written and well researched.

Wonderful

Very entertaining and easy reading. Shaara again brings to life the leaders in another military conflict with monumental stakes for our country.
General Washington once again stands tall amongst all others, snd Shaara also highlights the outstanding services of Greene, Morgan, and Lafayette.

The short semi fictional story of the Revolution

This was an enjoyable book to listen to. While the first person narrative is made up the facts are more or less correct.
