Publisher's summary

Dottie and Mary forged a friendship over a bag of penny sweets when they were eight years old. They've shared everything together since then. Now, at seventeen, they're both shopgirls working at Woolworths.

As they go out in the world in pursuit of love and happiness and life becomes more complicated, the simplicity of their childhood dissolves. The heady excitement of first love will consume them both, but the pain of unintentional betrayal will test their friendship.

Funny, laugh out loud, crying..

I don’t think I’ve ever loved a book so much as ‘The Girls from See Saw Lane: Book 1’ I was raised in Hastings..my mom lived during WWII in Hastings which is not far from Brighton where my Uncle still lives. That was during the ‘60’s also, but I wasn’t as old as the girls..just a mere child. The thing I’m trying to say is I could relate so much to the narrator and the words Sandy Taylor wrote. I laughed so much and at the end cried like a little girl. What a beautiful book...

Highly recommended 5⭐️plus..take a moment to listen and read the British ways of doing crazy things in the 60’s and a tragedy that befalls upon a family...

ok..wow

This is my first book by S Taylor. I normally listen to murder mysteries/thriller. I'm not sure why I chose this novel when it was on sale. At first, I thought it was really slow. This is when the backstory is told, and you are getting to know the characters. I almost stopped listening. I'm glad I didn't, because boy does it turn around! Dottie and Mary have a codependent relationship and Dottie just sinks to the background. Dottie's siter Rita needs a foot up her bum. Ralph and Elton both wind up growing through the book. That was nice to see. Overall, I liked this book and because the way it ended; I might purchase the next book. I really liked the narrator. I'd listen to her again anytime. Give this one a try. But have your Kleenex nearby.

True friendship is rare.

I loved the main themes of love and forgiveness and loyalty. I’m not good at writing so it’s hard for me to express how moving this story was to me. It makes me want to cultivate a more meaningful friendship with another female. Maybe it isn’t too late. Take on a listen.

Great Story

Wish the would of done what would happen in the future. I believe Mary was very selfish.

Warm, funny and observant

I loved this book from the first sentence and binge listened, laughing at dad with his yellow fingers having a sneaky fag with the vicar, smiled at the memories conjured up by the pick n mix counter in Woolies and tasted the sea air with its peculiar odour of seaweed and chips. Wonderful narrator and heartwarming story.
