"Bank's gifts of distanced objectivity - as author and reader - dovetail here with stylish panache." (Publishers Weekly)
I read this book for my book club. We would not recommend this book to other friends.
Quite dull. At least the humor still came through. My major problem with "performance" didn't come from Melissa though. It came from Audible. The chapters were in the wrong order. With short stories it can be hard to tell but I found this out while discussing with my book club group.
It's very quick, had some funny as well as insightful moments but overall I was left frustrated by the download, by the main character's interactions with the men in the stories and by the incredibly dull reading by Melissa.
I guess the disjointed nature of this book was meant to be artistic and interesting, where I thought it was just plain confusing. Too many story lines are unfinished...you are left with an unsatisfied feeling when all is said and done. If I wanted dazed and confused, I'd go rent the movie.
