Publisher's summary

Somewhere in New England, nine-year-old Trisha gets lost in the woods while on a walk with her family. Her only comforts are the radio broadcasts of Boston Red Sox games featuring her favorite player, closing pitcher Tom Gordon. Lonely, frightened, starving, and cold, Gordon becomes Trisha's imaginary companion - and the key to her survival against an unidentified someone (or some thing) leaving death and destruction in its wake.

The Girl Who Loved Tom Gordon is read by celebrated actress Anne Heche, star of numerous major motion pictures including Return to Paradise and Wag the Dog.

I love this story.

I've read this story long before I listened to it here on audible. Stephen King really takes you on the journey with her. She's very real and sympathetically engaging. Anne Heche's performance was worthy of the book.

Not so much

There is no Doubt that Stephen King is a brilliant writer. But this did not do it for me. It was to prosaic for my taste. And that is certainly just my opinion. The writing is excellent I can't criticize anything specific about it. It just didn't do it for me.

How do you close?

This book was very well done and the performance was very good. There were a few dull moments but then again Stephan King made the dullest of moments still interesting. A very good read and well worth the time.

Second time is better than first time

This is the second time I've listened to the audio version of this book. The first time I was up for the entire night. I could not sleep knowing that Trish was lost. The second time I found the ending moved me to tears. I think between the first and second times which cover a period of about ten years I have been lost in the woods a few times myself allegorically speaking. So I know how it feels. I also know that anything can happen at any time. One moment you are waking up to another uneventful work day. The next moment you are watching a news cast of an airplane flying into a tall building and your life forever changes. The Wasp King is still alive and well. Watch out for that one.

I love this story

I first read this book when I was a nine year old girl living in the woods of Alaska. And I fell in love with it. I’ve read this book once every couple of years but decided to buy it on Audible while it was on sale.
The story is terrifyingly plausible if you’ve ever lived in, or spent time in a heavily wooded area.
I thought the narrator did a good job capturing the main characters nuances throughout the story. First peppy then scared then exhausted and sickly.
I don’t know why they decided to add in musical interludes after every chapter... even though one of them was quite beautiful, They did get kind of annoying I’ll admit. It wasn’t so bad during the middle of the book where the chapters were farther apart. But by the end of the story where the chapters are very short it got annoying stopping every paragraph to listen to a song.
But this being one of my favorite books, the annoyance was very minor.

Awful audio quality

Do not download this audio book, it has the worst quality I have ever heard in my life. I feel like I wasted my money on this.
The story is ok, it's not King's best novel but it's entertaining and fast.

NOT HIS BEST, BUT DEFINITELY NOT HIS WORST!!

If You're Really Into King's 'Stranded' Type Stories
Then This Is The One For You!!

Anne (R.I.P.) Heche's Reading Was Absolutely Brilliant And Got Me More Invested In The Story Than I Probably Would've Been If I Had Actually Read The Book.
Her Narration Helped Me To 'See' The Story Better And Made My Heart Genuinely Go Out To Trish.
I Was Concerned & Rooting For Her At Every Twist & Turn!

Muffled sound

Felt like I was listening to this with cotton in my ears. Aside from that, it was ok. Not as engaging as some stories but interesting enough to keep going. I think it’s one of those stories that gets better on a second read.
