The year is 1771. Claire Randall is still an outlander, out of place and out of time. But now she is linked by love to her only anchor: Jamie Fraser. They have crossed oceans and centuries to build a life together in North Carolina. But tensions, both ancient and recent, threaten members of their clan.
Knowing that his wife has the gift of prophecy, James must believe Claire, though he would prefer not to. Claire has shared a dreadful truth: there will, without a doubt, be a war. Her knowledge of the oncoming revolution is a flickering torch that may light his way through perilous years ahead - or ignite a conflagration that will leave their lives in ashes.

It is about time The Fiery Cross was made available in the unabridged version!!! I love this whole series and was devastated at the abridged version of this book! It was total butchery! Diana is an amazing writer encompassing history and romance with action/adventure, myths and legends and time travel all within an amazing story! And NO ONE could narrate these books other than Davina Porter! Her ability to give each of the characters their own distinct voice allows the reader to know who is speaking without being told and she has a firm grasp on each personality so that it makes the listener feel as if they are not only a part of the story but a part of the family as well. Can't wait for book 8!!!
Have listened to all Diana's books (twice)- including the abridged version (hated it). The detail and depth of her stories are what makes them so great, not to mention Davina's wonderful narration. I am in love with Jaime- and appreciate the research that went into the historical part of the novels. Would love for this series to go on forever. Great listen and well worth the credit!
I'm a 24-year-old woman who loves to read. The longer the book, the better. The Stand, The Help and The Hunger Games are my favorites.
This has been a long time coming. For me, it's been 3 years of requesting this at least once a week. Fantastic series with a fantastic reader. Now I can finish the series and see what happens to all the characters. Thank you audible for making this available.
For new readers, I strongly recommend starting with Outlander and working your way forward. What I love about these books is that they don't fit into any specific genre. There's romance, bloodshed, betrayal, time travel, Etc., but please don't let the fact that this is a bit of a science fiction read discourage you from trying it out because there's so much more to this series. I mean, who can resist a scottish warrior.:) I myself finished Outlander in 2 weeks, and that was during my Freshman year of college, and it happened to be the end of the semester.
As I've said, these books are very different which is hard to find these days. Davina Porter is an AMAZING narrator also. Like I say, start with Outlander if you are new to this series and don't let the fact that this book is list in the sci-fi category discourage you from at least trying it.
....for Ms. Porter's lovely voice to continue this series. It was so great to read everyone's (very bad) opinion of the abridged edition, and to thus avoid it! I waited, and am so glad I did: Claire and Jamie together again with Ms. Porter's divine voice playing all the parts so well. Thank you much for putting it out there as soon as was available through Recorded Books (which no longer sends out books to reader; what is it about that?). I'm still not finished, but it's a great ride so far!!
Read them all and you will read them again and again.
Davina Porter is the best Narrator of Diana's books.
She gets the voices so down that you know who she is talking about
before the book tells you. Recommend, recommend!!!!
I had stopped with the series after Drums because of the reviews on the abridged version of The Fiery Cross. I decided to try again a couple of weeks ago and found that the abridged version had become unavailable. Checked back today and you can imagine how wonderful it was to see the book recorded not only in an unabridged version but also narrated by Davina Porter. All I can say is that it is about time!
Delighted that Audible was finally able to secure the rights to Davina's reading of book 5. I've been waiting for what feels like forever!
I had checked this audiobook via Interlibrary Loan from my local library (who had to get it from another state for the record), because the Unabridged Version was not available at the time (seemed like forever!). So, Thank You SOOO MUCH for being so extremely prompt about putting this out here for us as soon as you could!!! I use Audible through my Kindle, and I'm a happy reader/listener. Verra Happy!
Have been waiting along time for this. I have the rest of the outlander series was just waiting for this one. The whole series is a must have you get lost in Jamie and Claire's story.
Awesome, wonderful, beautiful, funny, hot, scarry, dramatic, thank you thank you thankyou!!!!! Love this series. And LOVE Davina Porter.
Finally here this version with the great voice of Davina Porter!! I am so happy. Her voice makes the whole book come to live, especcially when you have listened to the first four outlander books. Now just waiting for 'breath of snow and ashes' with Davina Porter! Please Audible....
I echo the above sentiment. Having listened to the previous four books it is a joyl to hear Davina Porter's wonderful voice again. Please please record book 6.
"Jamie & Claire Saga continues"
This is book 5 of the time travel Outlander series of adventures of Claire Randall and highlander Jamie Fraser. I have read all seven books and listened to them on disc and via Audible as well. Can't wait for book eight!
"Too long Davina"
I love the series but am still plowing my way through this one. the first chapters go on and on and am not sure that they have added anything. I have now got to the interest and pace that I loved in some of the earlier books. I am sure by the end i will love it.
"Captivating and informative."
Davina Porter has made me believe this family is real and I would recognise each of them by their voices alone. The villains are so well portrayed that just the mention of their names brings a feeling of unease over me. I've read all the Outlander books and I dearly miss the characters on my daily walks.
"Adventure in the wilderness"
Plenty of insights into the lives of the early settlers in North Carolina, lots of lovely domestic details
