Making the world better one review at a time.
These four short stories by Jon Ronson are very easy to relate to. Anyone who has a child, spouse, neighbor, friend and / or parents will find a connection here. Jon Ronson is a wonderful writer and an even better reader. Ronson's voice alone will make you laugh as you listen to these stories. I have been a fan of Ronson's since I read The Psychopath Test, and these delightful and humorous stories only made me more of one. I can't wait for the next Ronson read!
As always, Jon Ronson is thought-provoking and funny in this glimpse into his personal life.
Rating scale: 5=Loved it, 4=Liked it, 3=Ok, 2=Disappointed, 1=Hated it. I look for well developed characters, compelling stories.
Of the four short stories presented here, the strongest comes first and it declines from there. The first is an amusing (and for most parents, familiar) tale of dealing with childhood curiosity about curse words. I had more than one discussion with my son when he was young about the hierarchy of profanities. The other family based stories were amusing, but without outright laughs of recognition. Somewhat adult content involved in a couple of the offerings not suitable for playing in the car with the kiddies. Amusing way to get through washing the dishes.
QUESTION : DOES LISTENING TO AUDIO BOOKS MAKE YOU SMARTER? If so, I'm. Freakin Genius!
Warning : Explicit Language Used.
If you just so happen, to listen to this book, say, on your Kindle Fire, with say, your children in the room, you have been warned! And your welcome.
Other than that, this book was so FUNNY! If you don't laugh, and I mean really laugh, at the last story. Then something is really wrong with you! SMILE
Tell us about yourself! I am a 43 year old wanna be intellect. I love people doing things for me and i guess that includes my reading! My interests vary widely so this site is right up my alley....maybe too much so!!!
It was free and of excellent quality
Jon himself because he thinks in the abstract and outside of the box, but never leaves reality. A quality i wish i had.
The extreme wit and brute honesty
I look forward to getting to know this writer. I went and found his stuff as soon as I listened to it. Thanks for the freebie
But it’s a Kosher frog!
Cute and entertaining. Like Seinfield, it all about nothing. I look forward to the release of his next book.
A commuter with a carniverous apetite for audiobooks of all stripes and colors.
This short story composition definitely had some funny moments to it. The humor is pretty dry but good. I assume they are based on Jon Ronson's actual life. He's got an interesting way to see the world. I laughed outloud several times, especially in the beginning. However the stories fade into each other. Which makes it unclear when the stories are ending or starting. Furthermore the last two stories are not nearly as enjoyable as the first two in my opinion. So it ended up just being alright. I am not sure I would buy the stories but they were reasonable for a free download.
These stories are very funny and charming in an offbeat way. I really enjoyed the author narrating his own work which sometimes does not work out as well as this one did.
Yes, two others. They are all good, but i love these short stories. I want more....and they would be worth buying!
Full disclosure....why we are all happily neurotic
Jon Ronson is the cat's meow!
When I drive, I read... uhm listen. I like SciFi, Fantasy, some Detective and Espionage novels and Religion. Now and then I will also listen to something else.
This is definitely not my cup of tea. The stories are supposed to be funny, but really aren't. It could be that this type of humour isn't funny to people like me. I found the first story vulgar and the rest very dull. It is for free, so try it and decide for yourself.
"A good laugh"
Really loved both stories and the narration. First class. Only complaint was there weren't enough short stories.
This was hilarious and I think my dogs thought I'd gone mad as I was was laughing so much with no-one around. I love Jon Ronson's writing, even more especially when he reads it, his timing and delivery are perfect. Still giggling.... Thank you for a wonderful freebie!
Interesting and enjoyable - believable characters, combined with situations that you can relate to - great free offering.
"Very very funny."
This really was laugh out loud funny. I loved it. And it was free. I will be investing in more Jon Ronson. 5 stars :-)
"Quality shorts for free"
Interesting, entertaining, realistic, enjoyable - believable characters, combined with situations that you can relate to - great free offering.
Much appreciated - Thanks
"Definitly worth the price of entry"
I have not read the print version, but Jon Ronson's reading style is a total delight and I can't get enough of it. So for me hearing him read his own words beats reading them myself any day.
It's typical Ronson, stretching the boundaries of taste but never to the point of disgust, delighting in his own humiliation and giving wonderful insight into human behavior.
The subject matter is a lot lighter than in Them or The Psychopath Test, but Ronson's delivery is just as compelling.
"like listening to a man speaking about his family for 27 minutes, only in the cinema. 5 tars!"
This serves as a wonderful introduction to Jon Ronson's style if you are new to his work. If you are already a keen reader/listener of Ronson's then this is a great little freebie, like a bonus episode of his classic Radio 4 series but without the questionable back ground music.
But do be warned, there is some rather unpleasant language, so not for the easily offended.
This is undoubtedly the worst book ever! The stories have no content, nothing interesting and are read in a mono-tone, uninterested voice...so I was surprised to discover the narrator was the author.
Good job this was a free sample.
"will download more"
Very funny. As a fan of his Radio 4 series, I will happily download more of Ronson's audiobooks.
Thanks, Audible, for another great free taster.
The family member Jon Ronson most mercilessly portrays as pompous, delusional and subject to strange obsessions is himself. By comparison the subjects of his other articles, books and documentaries seem to have got off lightly.
Jon Ronson is a favourite author of mine; always sharp, pithy, and yet slightly bemused. This is a wonderful little freebie that contains his usually accurate, and funny, observations.
Jon Ronson himself is an engaging reader, telling his stories with just the right amount of verve. Download if you appreciate Louis Theroux. If you enjoy this try: 'The Psychopath Test', 'Lost at Sea', or 'Them'.
