Publisher's summary

The tomb of China’s First Emperor, guarded by an underground army of terra-cotta warriors, has remained sealed for more than 2,000 years. Though it’s regarded as one of the greatest archaeological sites in the world, the Chinese government won’t allow anyone to open it. Why? That question is at the heart of a dilemma faced by former Justice Department operative Cotton Malone, whose life is shattered when he receives an anonymous note carrying an unfamiliar Web address. Logging on, he sees Cassiopeia Vitt, a woman who’s saved his life more than once, being tortured at the hands of a mysterious man who has a single demand: Bring me the artifact she’s asked you to keep safe. The only problem is, Malone doesn’t have a clue what the man is talking about, since Cassiopeia has left nothing with him. So begins Malone’s most harrowing adventure to date—one that offers up astounding historical revelations, pits him against a ruthless ancient brotherhood, and sends him from Denmark to Belgium to Vietnam then on to China, a vast and mysterious land where danger lurks at every turn.

Dammit Scott B. !!

WTF Scott did Steve put you up to this? This was book 6! for 5 of them you have been saying Ms. Vitt's name one way and now for some reason you've changed it. Since this book is centered on her and you say the name 100's of times it is even more annoying. 5 books calling her Cassiopeia not we start pronouncing it Cassyo pia. Grrrr... kind of ruined the book for me. I tried not to be annoyed but everytime you said it that way it just made me loose focus on what they were saying and think about how annoying it was.......

another good Berry

I enjoyed this story as I have the author's other ones. I have always particularly enjoyed the historical perspective and the historical perspective on China seems very timely with what's oing on in the worold now. I'll forward to his next one.

Great continuation of the story

This was a great read / listen. The storyline follows the story concept masterfully. The world needs more people like Cotton Malone.

Great book if interested in Chinese history ....

Well-written book about Chinese history. Well narrated. If you're interested in a mystery story, however, it's not with the introductory price of $9.95 and definitely not worth a credit.

Copehagen

I've just started, and it may be OK, but not immediately gripping.

Scott Brick is a good reader, but why oh why didn't he (or an editor or somebody) look up how to pronounce "Copenhagen"? Why rely on Danny Kaye?

Oil is what and where!

The author does alot of research on the locations and the variety of historical facts is fascinating. His characters grab you into their predicaments, and that makes for exciting reading. I have enjoyed his previous books and look forward to many more!

Cotton Malone to the rescue yet again

I enjoyed this volume of the series.
The plotting, writing, and delivery were all spot on.

The background of the action in China was somewhat daunting to me, but that is where audiobooks shine. They helped me past all of the"difficult to pronounce for westerners" parts.

The author took what could have been a rather dry battle for political power and made it a gripping read/listen.

Some of the "almost too weird to be true, but only almost" moments were explained well and you end up thinking"How had I not known this before?". I won't go into what those are as they might be considered spoilers or, worse, might discourage someone from reading this because they think it's too far out... it's not.

The book is pretty much wall to wall action and intrigue. The parts that are not are filled with fascinating exposition, done in a flowing, entertaining style.

I highly recommend this book.

Not the usual flowing story

This book took me longer than usual to complete. I almost stopped midway. However I pushed on. I never did get that "oh this is a good story" feeling though. There wasn't the smooth flow from the author that I am used to.

Just okay...

I really enjoy both Steve Berry and Scott Brick, however I found my mind wandering while listening to this one. Normally I'm sad when the books are over, but I was ready to be done with this one. There seemed to be a lot of background or historical information, which is necessary, but maybe this was too much. The action scenes were good, but I didn't find myself on the edge of my seat. It's an okay listen - I'm glad I bought it at the introductory price.
