Publisher's summary

Winner of the African American Literary Award for Fiction, Essence® best-selling author Victoria Christopher Murray delivers a cautionary tale about debt and the dangers of an overly tempting offer. Married at 17, Adam and Evia Langston have worked their way up from rags to riches. But as they are enjoying all the trappings of their success, a financial downturn leaves them teetering on the brink of disaster. And that’s when Evia’s boss makes the Langstons a fivemillion dollar offer they can’t refuse.

Evia was annoying

The book was mostly about Evian thinking to herself. Needed more drama. But was OK

surprised!

What did you love best about The Deal, the Dance, and the Devil?

the end of the story was VERY surprising, without giving to much info, I really did not expect one of the main female characters to be who she was. who the heck would have thought of such an ending!

What did you like best about this story?

how glamorous the couples life was, beautiful children, great girlfriends, love of their faith then BOOM, the real story begins........

What does Susan Spain bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

excitement, her voice made the story believable, til u get to the end, then BOOM!

If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

THE DEVIL MADE ME DO IT!

Any additional comments?

this was a great book, as a mail carrier walking all day gets kinda boring, (right). the characters, had my lil mind constantly in a state of OMG. walking down the streets damn near talking to myself, rewinding my ipod to see if I heard her rite or did she say what I thought she said??? It took me 3 days to listen to since i only listen to my books when i'm working, makes the day shorter. I was pleased. kudo's to the author, and narrator.

Great listen

This was a great book! I had my doubts at first, but it had me from the beginning, I did not want this book to end. The story line was awesome some time the choices we make can end badly. The Langston was a loving couple but one person can mess everything up be careful of your choices. Great title

One of the good ones.

This is one of the best books I have ever read. I was imagining and guess all the way through the book and coming up with different scenarios. I loved it...

I enjoyed listening to this book. I liked everything about it. Shay-Shaunté was something else. At the very end it all made sense. I love this author’s work💪🏾

TO HOT TO HANDLE SMH THIS BOOK OMG

That was and is a hard decision to make when it seems life has thrown you all types pf curve balls. I was blue about the stop hiring process SMFH the devil truly come to steal, kill, and destroy!!! this book takes me to a time when I had it ruff and I was being tested. I walked out my front door and my truck had a boot on it, I was confused, and pissed off. I called around for help; but I couldn't reach a soul in my time of need; but something whisper in my ear to check my mail box and there was a check for $700.00 in there and all I could say was God is good all the time, and that boot was gone with in a few hours....

Mouth Left Wide Open !!!

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

I would definitely recommend this book because it was a very good read. This was my very first audiobook and I am hooked for life.

What other book might you compare The Deal, the Dance, and the Devil to and why?

I can't answer this one.

Which scene was your favorite?

The twins birthday party.

If you could take any character from The Deal, the Dance, and the Devil out to dinner, who would it be and why?

Shay Shantay because it would be fun people watching with her and it would be equally interesting to hear her conversation concerning her dislike of other people. She's such a schemer and so sure of herself, it makes me want to slap her.

It's a shame...it had a little potential...

Is there anything you would change about this book?

Where do I start? I struggle with anything good to say about this title. I really tried to see and justify what I thought was the authors intent, but I just found this book typical, maybe as of a writer trying to do something different with the evident, I don't know. I looked at the authors videos about this book but I still don't get it....

I was told this author was uplifting and I'm trying not to be confused... is this a book of spirituality, faith and inspiration? There is absolutely no foundation for this being any of the aforementioned. So, Heeeeck yeah I would change some things...for instance, I would have spent more time balancing out the bad choices of the parents with some growth and maturing somewhere in there..instead the author seems to drone on with unnecessary soliloquies in the mind of the wife ...a husband with his own agenda ...along with the negative productions of meetings with her good angel bad angel girlfriends.... what a drag....

I mean, I get it... the descent of wrong choices into the abyss that turns your household to shambles can be devastating-however, in order for this book to be inspirational one would think eventually a light bulb of right would go off over one of these peoples heads or the voice of truth and reason would penetrate their hearts... at the very least leaving the reader with hope! But I guess I was misinformed...

And I would rewrite that awful and awfully obvious ending...seriously!

What was most disappointing about Victoria Christopher Murray’s story?

What selfish, irresponsible and shortsighted parents the lead characters were, seems the husband learned one lesson from his upbringing ...live above your means at all costs...and the wife? well...she....she was just plain annoying...seriously who does this?

And although I'm sure the author wanted to reflect this couple as being in a long yet still passionate marriage, it just came off as if they had sex to keep from facing the issues of life....it was empty and hollow ...I don't know.... that could have been her point however, it just seemed ridiculously gratuitous to me.This book was far from inspirational and what's worse the ending left it open for a sequel ...Ugh!

Did the narration match the pace of the story?

Yes

Did The Deal, the Dance, and the Devil inspire you to do anything?

Yes, to use caution when choosing any of this authors other books.

Any additional comments?

This story began with some potential ...but throughout to the ending was just plain evil to me.....to bad I happened to choose this particular composition to start with by this author, it left a bad taste in my mouth. Obviously this is just my opinion and I could argue both sides of looking at this book unfortunately the only side I can give at this time is the side eye.... and it ain't pretty being left without an understanding of what the author was truly trying to relay.....but read/listen and judge for yourself.

The only redeemable thought for my time is choosing to hope I understand the authors intent correctly.....she having wanted us to see that all church goers/professing Christians don't know or serve the Word of the Elohim of Abraham, Issac and Jacob (which is what I find typical) and because of such are deceived and and ruined in the wake of trial. I can respect that intent, if it is as I believe but, it just really came off to me, like a bad science fiction movie.
