Winner of the African American Literary Award for Fiction, Essence® best-selling author Victoria Christopher Murray delivers a cautionary tale about debt and the dangers of an overly tempting offer. Married at 17, Adam and Evia Langston have worked their way up from rags to riches. But as they are enjoying all the trappings of their success, a financial downturn leaves them teetering on the brink of disaster. And that’s when Evia’s boss makes the Langstons a fivemillion dollar offer they can’t refuse.

The Girl is GUUUUUD - {{{{VCM}}} - MUST READ!

If you don’t get this book you are truly missing out. First of all, how in the world are you going to proposition me about mine - The audacity. In life there are choices and stands you have to make, this work of fiction takes your mind places where on the outside looking in you know exactly what your response would be to these things, but not so much if you are in the mix. This book is awesome. JUST GET IT and thank me later.

Great Story!

I loved the story about Adam & Evia which I found out their names had a symbolic meaning. Although Evia's actions really started grating my nerves after a while...the old saying "be careful what you wish for" definitely applies. I also enjoyed the way the author "snuck in" a moral to the story - very clever. It would be nice if there was a continuation or part 2.

For the love of money

Where does The Deal, the Dance, and the Devil rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

Wow, this was a good one! Great pacing, good action, funny and just enough passion. It really made me think, too. What does a person sacrifice to

What was your reaction to the ending? (No spoilers please!)

No spoiler..but by the middle or at least 3/4s of the way in its pretty obvious. But its still fun to see how far down she's gonna take them.

Which scene was your favorite?

No one favorite scene. But I could really sympathize with Evia the night she sent Adam to Sasha. That was tough.

If you could take any character from The Deal, the Dance, and the Devil out to dinner, who would it be and why?

I would take both Adam and Evia out, to give them both a wake-up smack. lol

Any additional comments?

Just get this book. It had a spiritual message without being the least bit preacy. And a great storyline that had me shaking my head and laughing out loud.

Interesting Idea

What did you like best about The Deal, the Dance, and the Devil? What did you like least?

I thought the performance and narration were really well done. I like the point that the story made overall about what is important in life and what is fleeting.

What was the most interesting aspect of this story? The least interesting?

I liked how the author showed the day to day reality that today's economy can have on a family. I didn't like the "subtle"clues about Shay Shante's true identity, that definitely made parts of the story very corny. I also didn't like how the story was so drawn out in moments such as the countdown portion, you know what's going to happen so I wanted to get to it. The entire story takes place over a 30 day period so the auditor definitely packed in alot of detail into those days, maybe too much.

Which scene was your favorite?

I liked the scene at the end of the book, because it was slightly eerie and unusual to hear Shay Shante in that context.

Could you see The Deal, the Dance, and the Devil being made into a movie or a TV series? Who should the stars be?

I could definitely see this as a movie because it is very compelling for today's economy. I think a Lynn Whitfield type could definitely play Shay Shante, she is the most compelling character. And it would be really cool to see flashback scenes of the weekend, after it happens.

surprised!

What did you love best about The Deal, the Dance, and the Devil?

the end of the story was VERY surprising, without giving to much info, I really did not expect one of the main female characters to be who she was. who the heck would have thought of such an ending!

What did you like best about this story?

how glamorous the couples life was, beautiful children, great girlfriends, love of their faith then BOOM, the real story begins........

What does Susan Spain bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

excitement, her voice made the story believable, til u get to the end, then BOOM!

If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

THE DEVIL MADE ME DO IT!

Any additional comments?

this was a great book, as a mail carrier walking all day gets kinda boring, (right). the characters, had my lil mind constantly in a state of OMG. walking down the streets damn near talking to myself, rewinding my ipod to see if I heard her rite or did she say what I thought she said??? It took me 3 days to listen to since i only listen to my books when i'm working, makes the day shorter. I was pleased. kudo's to the author, and narrator.

Lessons Learned

This was an awesome story. The narrator was great with details, voice, expressions. I listened to it twice, especially when I got to the end and was blown away. The enemy knows our weaknesses and its best to listen when we are being warned. I wish there were a Part 2!!!

Great Read

I enjoyed the highs and lows but Evia was sometimes so annoying. Adam was so cold towards the end.

Stay in God's Will!

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Yes, I would definitely recommend this audiobook. Even though I am not married, this is reminder to all of us not to succumb to life's hard blows. As a Christian, I believe we have to remember to live by the morals, values and Godly wisdom we've been taught. If we take our eyes off our goals and Godly wisdom, we'll allow the Devil to slide right in and devour.

What other book might you compare The Deal, the Dance, and the Devil to and why?

Well the Bible would compare to this novel. It is definitely a story based out of many issues that are taught in God's Word or at least it is an example of why we need to follow God's word and will.

Have you listened to any of Susan Spain’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

I have heard her voice before and as always she's on point!

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

Money can only take you so far but your yes to the Devil will last you a lifetime.

Any additional comments?

Good book, well written and narrated and a great lesson to us all about decisions and motives.
