Publisher's summary

All good things must come to an end, Constant Listener, and not even Stephen King can write a story that goes on forever. The tale of Roland Deschain's relentless quest for the Dark Tower has, the author fears, sorely tried the patience of those who have followed it from its earliest chapters. But attend to it a while longer, if it pleases you, for this volume is the last, and often the last things are best.

Roland's ka-tet remains intact, though scattered over wheres and whens. Susannah-Mia has been carried from the Dixie Pig (in the summer of 1999) to a birthing room (really a chamber of horrors) in Thunderclap's Fedic Station; Jake and Father Callahan, with Oy between them, have entered the restaurant on Lex and 61st with weapons drawn, little knowing how numerous and noxious are their foes. Roland and Eddie are with John Cullum in Maine, in 1977, looking for the site on Turtleback Lane where "walk-ins" have been often seen. They want desperately to get back to the others, to Susannah especially, and yet they have come to realize that the world they need to escape is the only one that matters.

Thus the audiobook opens, like a door to the uttermost reaches of Stephen King's imagination. You've come this far. Come a little farther. Come all the way. The sound you hear may be the slamming of the door behind you. Welcome to The Dark Tower.

Set in a world of extraordinary circumstances, filled with stunning visual imagery and unforgettable characters, The Dark Tower series is unlike anything you've ever heard. Here is Stephen King's most visionary piece of storytelling, a magical mix of fantasy and horror that may well be his crowning achievement. Don't miss the other volumes of Stephen King's The Dark Tower.

Critic reviews

"A pilgrimage that began with one lone man's quest to save multiple worlds from chaos and destruction unfolds into a tale of epic proportions....a closer look at the brilliant complexity of his Dark Tower world should explain why this bestselling author has finally been recognized for his contribution to the contemporary literary canon. With the conclusion of this tale...King has certainly reached the top of his game." (Publishers Weekly)

Featured Article: The Best Audiobook Series of All Time by Genre

What makes a good audiobook series? There are as many answers to this question as there are listeners. For some, it might be epic battles. For others, it might be ongoing romantic twists and tensions. For still others, it might be elongated character studies or an in-depth analysis of a particular time and place. But the universal element of a truly great series is that it sticks with you long after the last word. These are our favorites from every major genre.

Didn't want this story to ever end.......?????????

Best story I've ever been a part of. Waitied over 10 years to read this final book, cause I didn't want it to end. "The Man in Black fled accross the desert...and the Gunslinger followed.". And so did I. I say thank you sai King. And damn you as well.

Don't Miss This Book!!!!!

Would you consider the audio edition of The Dark Tower to be better than the print version?

I love the voices George Guidall uses for each character. The book seems to come alive and I can "see" the action as it is taking place.

Who was your favorite character and why?

I have a crush on Roland. He is both strong and wise.

Which character – as performed by George Guidall – was your favorite?

Other than Roland..I love Suzanna..A strong woman with abilities.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

Yes..I cried ..I won't ruin the book by telling you why.

Any additional comments?

Please..If you like Stephen King, don't miss this book..or any of the others in the series!

A fulfilling ending to Roland’s saga

All the remaining players and events come to their mutual/disparate yet satisfying conclusions. Many new moments arise in this final book and many old storylines come back into play as the story reaches its end. Not sure if I liked the way King injected himself so much into the final chapter or how he sometimes talked directly to the readers like in a teacher or someone doing a dissertation a few times. Can’t recall another book that he did this, neither in or out of the Dark Tower series. King ends the story with one satisfying ending and offers you to stop there for a warm, comfortable conclusion, then, if you REALLY insist, continues on to the full-disclosure ending that will leave you mildly disconcerted, but it does complete the true, final circle of the story. You’ve been warned. As King says, there are no happy endings, and he delivers on that promise. A well done book and well wrapped up although I’ve got some qualms with how Mordred’s powers are presented early and what they are later. Inconsistent to me, but I guess I won’t quibble with that one detail.
